Born in Arborg district Manitoba, she was the youngest daughter and second youngest child of twelve children to John and Anastasia Kernot.
Born in 1930 she grew up in the depression and time of WW2 and all that followed. She moved to Winnipeg in 1948 then to Vancouver not long after to make a life for herself. Catherine found herself working as an elevator operator for the T. Eaton company. Through this she met many friends. Subsequently, she ended up modeling for Eatons as well as many other companies. She met her husband Charles in late 1957 and was married three years later. They settled in Burnaby and in 1967 their first son Charles Jr was born. Fourteen months later they welcomed another son Roger.
Mom was the consummate homemaker and party host, whether it be birthday parties or any other annual event. Many summers saw the family traveling to Kelowna to visit cousins and enjoy all the Okanagan had to offer. When Charles retired in 1981, they moved to Kelowna and enjoyed their life together here.
Catherine had two daughters in law Laurinda and Kim. She also welcomed three grandchildren into her life, Scott in 1991, Adrianna in 1996 and Sofia in 2001.
In 1996, Charles passed. Mom started dancing again soon after and lived her life to the fullest until 2018 when she suffered a stroke. Catherine moved to Mountainview Village where she settled in and became a fixture over the last three years of her life.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Mountainview Village 2 West Critical Care. You are appreciated beyond words and we could never thank you enough for the care, love and attention you gave to our mother.
To all of the staff at KGH that were involved in Mom’s care, we cannot express our gratitude for your kindness and compassion.
Any donations in lieu of flowers can be made in Catherine’s name to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation.
Dance on Mom.
