Ann was born October 30, 1927, to Donald and Lucille Stoner in Melbourne, Australia and moved to the US at 1 year of age; she was raised in River Edge, NJ. As a child, she enjoyed swimming at Highland Lakes in Vernon, NJ and spending time with her good friends Jane Ambrosy and John Meyer.
Ann was a proud “Comet,” graduating from Hackensack High School in 1945. She went on to study theater then switched to food and nutrition at Syracuse University, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi and served as their rush chairwoman. In her studies at Syracuse, Ann had the honor of baking the piecrust for Eleanor Roosevelt’s visit. Ann later completed postgraduate study at Rutgers University, obtaining her clinical dietician registry.
Ann started her first job at Columbia Presbyterian in 1947 in New York City, launching a 50-year career as a dietician. Ann later worked as chief clinical dietician for Newton Memorial, Paterson General, and Phillipsburg Hospitals before consulting for Merry Heart Nursing Home in Succasunna, NJ. In 2012, she formally retired from dietetics, receiving accolades from the American Dietetic Association for 50 years of service.
Ann met her second husband, Don, in 1958; they spent many years running a very successful dairy farm off Hamilton Rd in Greendell, NJ. In the 1970’s they began raising Black Angus beef cows and growing hay. Ann loved researching genealogy with Don. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, canning vegetables and fruits, and swimming at the family cabin in Highland Lakes NJ with family.
In 2003, Ann moved to Ventnor, NJ. She spent her time tap dancing, serving as vestry member of the Episcopal Church, and visiting with family and friends. She had an amazing memory and prolific vocabulary; she was an avid bridge player and tough scrabble competitor. Ann will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Ann was predeceased by parents, Lucille and Donald Stoner; second husband, Donald Hamilton, and son, Robert Fredericks, Jr. She is survived by children, Carol Ann Fredericks (Kenneth Schloesser) and Neil J. Hamilton (Aneta Hamilton); grandsons, Eric (Regina), Kent, Jesse, Howell, and Max; great-granddaughters, Violet, Ella and Emily; brothers, Gregory and Douglas Stoner; sisters, Linda and Carol Stoner; cousin, Fay Carpenter and many second cousins.
Visitation will be held from 12 pm to 1 pm on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Christ Episcopal Church, 62 Main St, Newton, NJ, with a Funeral Service at 1 pm at the church. Interment will follow in Tranquility Cemetery, 19 Maple Lane Rd, Green Twp, NJ.
