We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Ian. This kind, funny, caring, loving, intelligent man was a natural people person and leader. He was loved by young and old, family, friends and coworkers.
Ian was born and raised in Port Alberni, a city he was proud to call his home.
He is predeceased by his parents Iggy and Edith St. Claire, and his beloved brothers Gary and Randy and brother-in-law Donnie.
He is survived by his wife Linda, children: Sarah (Steve), Luke (Laura), Corbin (Jenika), and Laura (Kyle); grandchildren – Nate, Maggie and Esme. Numerous nieces and nephews and grandniece and grand nephews; including his namesake, young Ian.
Ian attended school at Alberni Elementary, A. W. Neil, ADSS, Uvic and UBC, earning a certificate in Disability Management; which he was particularly proud of. He was a lifelong learner and history buff, volunteering for the Elder College Board at NIC.
He put his natural skills to good use when he worked in Personnel at the pulp and paper mill, assisting many employees. He worked for various employers over his 37 years there. He will be remembered by his men, for organizing fun fishing derbys and a great Christmas party.
He loved playing sports in his younger years and running in his middle years. He loved travel, cooking, politics, animals and he was the happiest doing simple things; like camping, with Linda.
A special thanks to his coffee club friends and poker group. He will miss you dearly.
Thanks to all of the wonderful, professional doctors and caregivers on the island, from Victoria to Comox; who aided him and treated him so well on his cancer journey.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Legion Hall in Port Alberni Saturday, October 4th 2025 from 1:00 – 3:00
Please donate in Ian’s name to the Cancer Society, or Ty Watson House.
