He was raised in Calhoun County, Alabama and graduated in 1955 from Alexandria High School and in 1961 from Auburn University where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. After transferring for work to several southern states, he settled in Talladega, Alabama in 1967.
Jack started and ended his working career in the insurance business. He worked for several insurance companies before he and his wife Becky in 1985 opened and operated Clark’s Insurance Center and Clark’s Realty Center and ran them until they retired in 2003. Jack was involved in several professional organizations during his working years including Alabama Independent Insurance Agents of Alabama Board of Directors, and Talladega County Board of Realtors as President and Board member. He also participated in local Civic organizations including as President of United Way of North Talladega County, Talladega Chamber of Commerce, Talladega Airport Board, and delivery of Meals on Wheels for Red Door kitchen. Also, he was active as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America where he was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award available for volunteer scouting at the time.
Jack was an avid Auburn sports fan and with Becky traveled with a group of friends to various out of state Auburn football games. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing throughout central Alabama with friends. He and Becky enjoyed playing over thirty golf courses together including courses in Hawaii, Mexico, Bermuda and the Bahamas. Also, he and Becky enjoyed entertaining family and friends at their condo at Orange Beach.
Jack was a member of First United Methodist Church in Talladega for over fifty years. He served in various leadership capacities including Council Chairman and President of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Jack was preceded in death by his father Hugh Jack Clark and mother Voncile W. Clark, and daughter in law Beth Lee Clark. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Becky; daughter Janet Klekamp (Jim); son Dave Clark; granddaughters Ashley Farris (Jesse), Katie Karell (Clark), Abigail Loggins (Shelton); great-granddaughters Hannah Farris, Dottie Farris and Clara Karell; and sister Mary Maude McCain.
