Lil & Dave, Dougie & Charmaine,
We’re all so very sorry to hear about Gerard’s passing.
60 Castle was a second home to so many of us growing  up, and for years beyond.  AG & Joyce were always at the door with a huge smile and a welcoming hug.
It’s impossible to count the times they were waving from the driveway as we drove away on another adventure!!  
These are the things I remember most fondly about AG….
-Sook-sook lobster dinners
-‘Twas on the Labrador me Son’
-Uckin Buckin Boooo-ey
-Hicks and Hoolies
and, of course,
-Too many Luv ya’s to count.

He lived a large life that touched so many others, and will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity.

To the Sampson Family,
On behalf of myself and brothers, we would like to pass our condolences on to all of you. We remember this wonderful man who when he opened Cape Breton Chrysler Ltd, he took a chance on hiring a young auto body foreman. They developed a great respect for each other and kept in contact throughout the years.

Dear Linda , Doug and family,

It was with much sadness that Diane and I just learned of Gerard’s passing….a man who lived a long, productive and fulfilling life.

Gerard was one of the finest people I have ever met. 

He was especially kind to my family , in difficult periods , over the years and my parents, Edna and Charlie Ponee, had nothing but the greatest respect for Gerard and always commented on his loyalty, honesty, exuberance and kindness. 

I have numerous happy memories of Gerard from the early fifties ;however,  the one that stands out is the time in the summer of 1965 when  he advanced me the purchase of a new Chrysler Barracuda so that I could take on a new job in Saskatchewan having  just finished graduate school…the payments to  follow later.  In addition , Gerard arranged for me to pick up the car at the Chrysler plant in Windsor, Ontario, so that I could see my dream machine roll off the assembly line.  What a thoughtful, kind and generous man!

My memories of Gerard, and  lovely Joyce, will always be an important part of my early years in Cape Breton. May their memories be a blessing.

We know how much you will miss your near-daily calls from Edmonton and the happiness you and Dave brought him during your visits home was truly inspirational.

Your father was a great man who has joined your mother, Joyce, in eternal peace. He knew that you and Doug made your way in the world, and was proud of the people you’ve become. His mission was fulfilled, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness.

As you remember Gerard, may you find comfort in the joy you shared and the memories you created together. He touched each of our lives in his unique way, making us all a bit better. May we all remember how he lived, loved, and served.

Donna & I extend our deepest condolences to Doug & Linda. 
Gerard was one of a kind, always a big smile and/or a joke. He was like a 2nd father to Donna when she was young as she spent numerous hours at their home, also as a babysitter to Doug & Linda.
In later years Donna & I were fortunate enough to be asked to their house parties when we were in town as we had moved from Sydney. Those parties were the highlight of our trips home as they were sure to provide lots of laughs and good times. Gerard & Joyce were wonderful hosts who could not do enough for you.
Gerard was very well known being a lifelong Sydney resident and involved in the car business all his working life. He and Joyce were inseparable and he adored his Siamese cat, Ting as well as the cross stitch of Ting Donna did for them. We were so lucky to be part of their lives.
May God rest his soul and let him lie in peace.

My condolences to the Sampson family very nice fellow indeed!

I had a great visit that day with Uncle Gerard and Aunt Zelia that day. I found him walking around, looking good and chatting up everyone like he was on a showroom floor.He showed me all around his living space , caught up on news , talked a little car biz and a few laughs and jokes . He was a positive influence in my life and career for sure, even at a distance. Whenever you saw him he lit up the space and was so outgoing. In many ways a younger version of Dad . I always enjoyed seeing them get together. He and Joyce were such gracious hosts . Once on a visit at the bungalow , we jumped in a new Charger to go visit Nardocchio's new bungalow . Long field type driveway , I may have been 10,  he says ..wanna drive Glen ? pretty cool in my books! Thoughts are with you Doug and Linda. RIP Uncle Gerard

Uncle Gerard was a social character always happy & spoke to everyone & should he not remember your name he would say 
“hello dear”.
He was a wonderful Husband to the love of his life Aunt Joyce,
Son Dougie,  Daughter Linda Lee,  nearly forgot Ting (their cats always called Ting; there were a few 🐈 over the years.  When I built my last house he was checking the workers  &  he loved reporting to me how good they were, the morning he called to tell me the four large trees needed to come down they are dangerous…I got a fellow that works for the City and he will cut them down Saturday & he doesn’t want any money from you however he wants the wood I told him to take it.  I was laughing so hard at work I had to get off the Switch Board;  that was My Uncle Gerard, he loved to be engaged when something was going On. 
He is now peaceful with his beautiful wife Aunt Joyce. 💗

So sorry for your loss, I have fond memories of your Mom and Dad, at our house and in Ben Eoin, they were always so sweet, your Mom was so pretty! Our parents all enjoyed a wonderful social life in Sydney. Our Dad supplied us with so much at the lake, horses, boats and lots of steak and lobster. Life was good. Very sorry to hear of Uncle Gerard's passing. It was in my plan to pay him a visit this summer as I hadn't beeen to Sydney for a few years. As you know he was my favourite Uncle growing up and Aunt Joyce my favourite Aunt and I don't mind saying that. We had a lot of good times in Ben Eoin and especially enjoyed the weekend "Functions and Hulahoops". Always had a great group of friends around and plenty of laughs and memories and usually a few stories. Gerard was a great part of fond memories growing up. The youngest of eight four brothers and four sisters, he now is the last of the Bert and Bertha Family to pass on.
