As an honor student Roger excelled in his studies. He chose not to go to college, but got a degree through the Denver Institute of Technology. Roger worked at Herbs Texaco Service and at Carl's Dairy while going to school. After getting his degree, Roger landed a job at Storage Technology as a field service engineer.
Roger enjoyed sports, playing baseball, and taking karate lessons. He was a Boy Scout and had a deep love of the outdoors. He hiked, camped, snowshoed, and pursued his deep passion, white water rafting. Every weekend he would go to Buena Vista to guide rafting trips. Roger and some of his rafting buddies tackled a section of Clear Creek that had not been successfully rafted before, getting their names in the newspaper. He also went on a weeklong trip rafting from Colorado to Utah.
Roger was a charismatic and intelligent person with a quick wit. He and his band of brothers were always up to something.
September 2, 1985 brought a big change to his life. A car accident left him in a coma. With prayers from family and friends, Roger's sheer stubbornness, sense of humor, and a lot of therapy, Roger surpassed all expectations of his doctors. Roger continued to live with our mother after the accident. He would go for long walks with his trusty sidekick Peppie, stopping to visit all of the neighbors. Thru Brain Injury Alliance Colorado and BEOC, Roger went to a camp where he did wall climbing, rope courses, rafting, biking, and a myriad of other activities. He always insisted on sleeping outside rather than in the cabin so he could be close to nature and enjoy the night sky. During the winter Roger would go skiing through the Winter Park program for the disabled.
Roger and our mother enjoyed going up to Blackhawk where staff knew them by name. They would also travel to Las Vegas and Ohio to get together with family.
Thru our mother's strong faith in God, and the love and faith of their parish family, Roger's faith in God also grew. He hated missing Sunday Services. He always attended the rosary praying at Cherrelyn Healthcare Center.
Roger's love of family was the center of his happiness. He always looked forward to seeing and hanging out with his family.
Roger is survived by his siblings Jeffrey (Diana), Alice (Steve), Geralyn (Doug), and the children of his siblings Jessica (Jason) and their son Dexter, Nathaniel (Kiyoko), Matthew (Kate), Alex, Avery, and Rose.
