It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathleen (Kay) King on January 14, 2019, with family by her side.
Kay was born in St. John, New Brunswick and came to BC with her family when she was 6 years old. As an adult, she worked for the Municipality of Delta as a bookkeeper for a number of years, after which she tried her hand as an entrepreneur. She owned a variety of businesses in different parts of BC before finally settling in Vernon.
Kay loved to travel. A few of her travel highlights included her trips to China and Thailand. She was also well known for her knitting, crafting and gardening. She was never one to sit idle and always had a project on the go. Kay also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino with family and friends, especially when she came home a winner.
Kay was very proud of her family and they were the most important thing in her life. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Kay is survived by her children: Deborah Duke (David), Richard LaFrance (Donna), Shelley Lamb (Dez), and Randy LaFrance; sister Lyla and nephew Kena; Grandchildren – Darryl, Jessica, Cory, Michelle, Jesse, Meghan, Jenna, Taiya and Anjali; Greatgrandchildren – Dayton, Paige, Brooklyn, William, Lucus, Anna, Ethan and Elena. And of course, her faithful, loving companion, her little dog, Max.
Kay was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Ethel King, sister Betty, and brother Russell.
The family would like to give special thanks to Vernon Hospice House staff who were so very kind to Kay in her last days. There will be no service by request. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, February 2, from 1:00 to 4:00 in the Clubhouse at Spruce Landing, Vernon. Those wishing to honour Kay may donate to Vernon Hospice House or the SPCA.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.pleasantvalleyfh.com for the KING family.
