She work for Columbus & Southern for many years and was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, she was also part of the Phillis Wheatley for African American Woman’s group. Shirley loved helping others; she enjoyed singing, and playing cards, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. Shirley will be deeply missed by everyone that knew and loved her.
She is survived by her four children, Duane (Tammy) Means of Elyria, Ohio, Heleen Christian of Augusta, Georgia, Jessica Means of Atlanta, Georgia and Nicole Means of Greensboro, North Carolina; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three sisters, Margaret Harris of Michigan, Betty Martin of Dayton, Ohio and Mamie Ivory of Florida; family friend Marcella Swain of Virginia and dear special friend, Jacinta Earley Tucker of Dennison, Ohio.
Along with her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her three brothers, Adrian, Homer and Roger and her sister, Daisy Mae.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home in Coshocton. Due to health and safety concerns related to COVID-19, social distancing measures will be in place and there will be a limited number of people inside the funeral home at a time. We also ask that you please wear a facemask at all times for the health and safety of our guests and employees.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 am with Pastor Cedric Anderson officiating. For those not able to attend, there will be a Facebook Live stream on the Funeral Home’s Facebook page. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.
