Born February 18, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York to William and Edith (Sitzabee) Stillwell, she married John Palmer, Jr. on April 2, 1949 in Brooklyn, New York. He died June 14, 1949. She then married Lyle Delbert Cave on June 26, 1952 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He died April 27, 2016. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Margaret Rees and one sister-in-law, Delores Bubert.
Surviving are one daughter, Lynda “Lyne”(Dale DeMott) Cave of Pekin; one son, Gary (Monica) Cave of Statesville, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Elijah Weakley of North Pekin, Joel Weakley of Pekin, Ashly (Travis) Rex of Banner, Jessica Cave of Kankakee, Alex Cave, Nicolas Cave, both of Marquette Heights, Bryce Holeman and McKenna Holman, both of Statesville; seven great-grandchildren, Khloe, Kora, Malachi, Oliver, Wyatt, Greyson and Hailey and two sisters, Elaine Jasky of Cleveland, Ohio and Edith Watkins of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania. She also leaves a special nephew, Brian Rees of Statesville, North Carolina.
She was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War serving as a disbursing clerk in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Grace worked for First Federal Savings & Loan for 17 years, retiring as the branch manager in Bartonville in 1990. She previously had worked at Channel 25 for 12 years.
She was a member of Pekin First Church of the Nazarene, where she faithfully volunteered at the information desk and was a member and treasurer of the Joy Sunday School Class. She also helped as a counter for 25 years and served for funeral dinners held at the church.
She loved spending time with her family and loved to crochet and tatting in particular. She also enjoyed making hats and scarfs for the hospital.
Her memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2021 at Pekin First Church of the Nazarene. Pastor W. Lloyd Brock will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service Monday at the church. Military rites will also be accorded at the church by the United States Navy and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team. Inurnment will then be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2021 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
