I shall not want
He makes me lay down in green pastures
He leads me beside still waters for his namesake
He restores my soul.
William Charles Madison Druid I was born to Donald Edward and Earline Marie Druid on August 9, 1943. On July 9, 2021 our Father the Shepherd of our souls made him lay down in the green pasture of His love.
William was born and raised in Atlantic City, N.J. During his childhood this city was known as America’s playground. It was William’s playground until he left to serve his country at the tender age of 19. He grew up quickly in service. He served a tour in Viet Nam and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant First Class before he turned 21 years old.
William (who was known as “Pie” by family and friends in Atlantic City) was now positioned to follow a roundabout path to become a leader of God’s people as Bishop William Charles Druid.
This journey led him from Atlantic City to Viet Nam, back to Atlantic City, and finally to Durham, N.C. where he attended North Carolina Central University. His favorite saying about NCCU was “An Eagle is not a common ordinary barnyard fowl.”
There was nothing common or ordinary about William Charles Madison Druid I. His charm, charisma and intellect caused him to excel at everything he set his mind to do and won the hearts of mostly everyone he met.
William was married twice in the life journey. He wed Maggie Bradford in 1969. To this union God added a son, Donald Edward Druid, II. The twists and turns and ups and downs of life caused this union to dissolve. He later married Flora Addella Campbell who was blessed to share 42 years of marriage with him. Unlike the popular quote, this marriage was a bed of roses which included a few thorns. The thorn only served to prick the flesh, but God’s grace kept the soul and the spirit of marriage strong. This marriage survived every weapon that the devil attempted to form.
To this union was added William’s namesake, William Charles Druid, II and William’s next generation twin Richard Earl Druid.
During the course of William’s life he also fathered 3 other children; Michelle Denise Spires, Anthony Charles Lott, and Tiffany Nichole Dixon (Parker).
William knew that there was a call to ministry on his life at an early age, but he did not accept that call until 1995 under the leadership of Bishop Charles McDowell at True Faith Fellowship in Florence, South Carolina. He was later ordained and eventually consecrated as a Bishop under the leadership of Bishop Donald Hill of House of God in Christ in Douglas, Georgia.
William led a productive and full life, not only ministering to the needs of God’s people and promoting His kingdom on earth, but also serving each community that he lived over the years.
He retired from the City of Durham Police Department where he served as the Supply Specialist equipping the officers with everything they needed to service the community.
His sense of humor and infectious personality embraced so many people throughout his life journey. His departure from his earthen vessels has left many sad and hurt. He will always be missed and cherished, but mostly everyone who knew him are grateful to God for the opportunity to share time and space of the chosen vessel created for God’s own glory.
Rest in peace Bishop Druid. You fought a good fight and finished your course.
He has restored your soul. And you are now completely whole.
We love you bunches.
