Potier, Laurette, 84, of Eastham, passed away on July 23, 2021. She was the dear daughter of the late Georges and Jeanne (Mars) Potier and the devoted wife of Edward A. Colbeth. Laurette was born and raised in Montreal, Canada where she was fluent in French and English at an early age, later she would also learn Portuguese and Spanish. After high school, she continued her education in Belgium to become a social worker, while there she met her former spouse, Joâo Luis Serra. Because of Joâo’s engineering career, they lived and traveled to many countries including Portugal, Mozambique, Angola, Belgium and Canada. While in Montreal, Laurette worked on data entry for the Canadian Postal Service. Laurette was also blessed with five children: Jean-Michel, Jean-Claude, Lydia, Marie-Christine and Isabel, six grandchildren : Christian, Alexis, Alec, Xavier, Camille and Mathieu and one great granddaughter : Clémence. In the ‘90’s Laurette moved to Boston where she attended the Kushi Institute, the leading macrobiotic educational center in the world. While there, she learned how to guide others in making good choices in nutrition, activity, and lifestyle for physical, emotional, mental, social, and environmental wellbeing. After Boston, Laurette moved to the Cape and arrived in Provincetown where she proudly tended to multiple vacation rentals for 10 years.
In 2010 Laurette found the man of her life , Edward, while attending a series of square dancing classes in Yarmouth. From that point on, Laurette was Edward’s dancing partner for life, they just celebrated their 8th wedding anniversary. Laurette knew how to keep herself busy, she taught yoga at the Eastham Senior Center, she and Edward would frequent the Dennis Senior Center for dance events and pot luck suppers and playing cards with friends brought her so much joy. Laurette appreciated flowers, gardens, walking on the beach in communion with the wind, swimming in the sea and enjoying healthy food, she exuded warmth and happiness and was always welcoming to all friends and neighbors. Many will miss her beautiful smile and her amazing outlook on life. Laurette is now with the angels in which she always believed.
In addition to her husband, children, grandchildren and great granddaughter, Laurette is survived by her sisters Louise and Jeanine and many nieces and nephews. Her brother Georges has passed away last year. A celebration in Laurette’s honor will be held at a later date.
