One of our first memories of Ba Ngoại dates back to a little over ten years ago. Even though she was getting on in years, she had a lot of energy; a lot of this energy was put into her morning routine. She would already be out of bed by 5, and after waking up everyone else, she’d take us along on her morning walk. Despite her lack of English, it seemed that everywhere she went, people loved her. Ba Ngoai had that something about her that went beyond the language barrier. From spontaneous gifts of food to her neighbors to saying “good mooorning!” to every person she met outside (even at 2 in the afternoon), her generosity, kindness, and quiet elegance shone through in everything she did. While her compassion touched everyone she met, it was clear that Ba Ngoai loved her family more than anything. Ba Ngoai didn’t have to say a lot for us to know that she loved us. We remember all the little things she used to do, like the way she would clasp one of our hands with both of her small, warm ones, or the way she used to smile up at us and say, “I looooooove you!”, or the way she would feed us a little spoonful of whatever she was cooking and giggle, “Yummy!”
It’s heartbreaking to realize that we will never again hear Ba Ngoai’s endearing phrases, or call her during Tết like we’ve done since forever. But a little of her lives on in each of us. We will always see her in every remembered life lesson she taught us and in every act of goodness we see or carry out ourselves. Ba Ngoai, we looooooove you, we miss you, and thank you for everything.

Cánh cò lặn lội bờ ao,
Gánh gạo nuôi chồng, con; khóc nỉ non.
Hình ảnh người mẹ tần tảo, khó nhọc và cô đơn ở trên thời xưa trước đây vẫn chưa phải là tất cả hình ảnh của mẹ chúng tôi trong thời nay, xã hội mới này…
Năm Mẹ 47 tuổi, Mẹ là người phụ nữ nhỏ bé, tay yếu chân mềm, chỉ quanh quẫn trong nhà. Lúc không có Ba (là trụ cột chính duy nhất từ trước đến nay), Mẹ bước ra cuộc đời đầy chông gai và sóng gió để che chở cho cả sáu con chim bơ vơ một cách kiên cường và mạnh mẽ, không hề có một sự quan tâm nào của bất kỳ ai, lẫn sự nghi kỵ và phân biệt đối xử. Thế mà cả sáu chị em chúng tôi đã tồn tại và vươn lên trong tình thương của Mẹ và sự hi sinh vô bờ bến.
Mẹ là một người cha bao dung, nhân ái nhất!
Mẹ là một người mẹ vĩ đại và mạnh mẽ của chúng con! 
Vu Lan năm nay chỉ còn vài ngày nữa , nhưng Mẹ đã không còn Mẹ ơi! Chúng con chỉ biết nhìn thiên hạ cài hoa hồng lên áo, muốn kìm xúc động nhưng nước mắt chúng con sẽ tuôn rơi hết kể từ hôm nay trở đi, Mẹ ơi!
Chúng con cầu xin Mẹ tha thứ cho tất cả chúng con nếu chưa hiểu hết lòng Mẹ, trước đây đã làm Mẹ buồn lòng! 
Chúng con nguyện cầu cho Mẹ được sang thế giới tâm linh, cực lạc vì Mẹ đã hoàn thành tâm nguyện của mình, Mẹ ơi!
Chúng con cầu mong “Tất cả ai còn Mẹ xin đừng để nước mắt rơi trên mắt Mẹ!”
Chúng con: Lan, Yến, Thọ, Phước, Oanh và Huệ tạm biệt Mẹ yếu quý của chúng con. 
Cháu ngoại:
Hình ảnh của Bà Ngoại luôn khắc sâu vào tâm trí chúng con từ khi chúng con còn rất bé, một người Bà nhân từ và thông minh, đầy hi sinh và nghị lực. Chúng con cầu nguyện ơn trên cho Bà sớm được về cõi Tây Phương Cực Lạc. 
Các cháu ngoại: Phúc – Thảo,  Châu – Như Ý của Bà.

My mother is a big image, a big influence  of my life; I was like her shadow, I patiently followed her all my life when she was alive, even when we were thousands of miles away from each other. Now it is different, because my mother has gone to the better world..., and I am now -a lonely shadow... still standing in this world

She was my Ba Ngoại, someone who had an infinite capacity for love. She was known to be an excellent knack for cooking, great sense of style,  cleanliness, humor, and above all, her compassion.  Her laugh and jovial mood always made me feel safe and positive, regardless of the situation. I am happy to have spent quality years with her, and will forever cherish her memories and the lessons she's imparted.  Her countless sacrifices for her family has not gone unnoticed, and her values are continued to be passed down through the generations.  She was surrounded by her loving family and will always be remembered.
