Josias Guerra Cavazos, 89 of Kansas City, MO, fulfilled his lifelong dream of going to Heaven on January 9, 2020. Josias was born on October 6, 1930 in Matamoros, Mexico. He was the son of late Reverend Jose and Maria Cavazos, and was the eldest of ten. He attended Magdiel Bible Institute of the Assemblies of God in Victoria, Mexico, and graduated in June of 1948, where he began his ministry as an evangelist.
In December of 1952 Josias married Raquel Aguilar and they were blessed with 4 children. With the support of his wife, Josias planted churches in Dumas, TX, Hartford, TX, and Emporia, KS, and was a pastor of three churches throughout his life. They were in Amarillo, TX, Joliet, IL, and Kansas City, MO. He was also a patriarch for the Midwest Latin Assembly of God District Council, where he served as a presbyter and executive presbyter.
Josias is preceded in death by his wife, Raquel; his eldest son, Josias, Jr.; brother, Joel; and three sisters, Macaria, Magdalena, and Milca. He is survived by his daughter, Stella; his son, David and his wife, Mary; and his son, Josue and his wife, Irene. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Oscar and his wife, Michelle, Angela, Deanna, Rachel, Nicolas, Alycia, Elijah, Ezekiel, Taylia, and Josue, Jr.; along with 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Josias was passionate about serving Christ and was dedicated to the ministry for nearly 70 years. His faith and testimony was an example to many, and he poured out his love for his brothers and sisters in Christ on numerous occasions. Josias has left an imprint on the hearts of many throughout his years in the ministry, and his legacy continues on through his family. The funeral service will be at The Cure Church on Friday, January 20th at 11:00 a.m., which is located at 3650 N. 67th St., Kansas City, KS. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of service. Interment will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens following the funeral service.
