It was her time to leave this world February 10th, 2021 in her 98th year, peacefully and with dignity in the comfort of home with her daughter and son-in-law by her side. She left us to kick up some 3-inch heels and dance the polka with her husband John and son Eddie.
Sophie was a dedicated wife to the late John Storozinski (1967) and a loving mother to her 4 children: son Eugene/Eugenic(Iris/Orisia) Storozinski; daughter Mary-Anne/Marusia (Donnie) Krochak; son Maurice/Myrosik (Judy/Eusdena) Storozinski; and daughter-in-law Margaret (Peggy) Storozinski, wife of the late Edward Storozinski (1999). Babka will be forever in the hearts of her 8 grandchildren: Andrea (Sérge), Brian, Jessica (Kyle), Laura (James), Tanya/Tanyachka (Brian), Paula/Pavlusia (Michael), John/Ivan (Sara), and Jana (Kevin). Pra-Babka counted herself fortunate to have enjoyed the smiles and laughter of her 9 great grandchildren: Quinn, Avéa, Alyssa, Nève, Evelyn/Evika, Katherine, Oliver, Nora, and William .
Born September 1, 1923 in Sarto, Manitoba, Sophie will also be remembered by family and friends out west, and will be meeting up on the farm in heaven with her brothers and sisters: John, Paulasia, Peter, Paul, and Mary, as well as many close cousins and friends. Her greatest joy in life was getting together with family. We will all honour her legacy by cooking delicious Ukrainian meals and enjoying our time together as she watches on from above gardening, picking wild mushrooms, and doing her cryptograms. Sophie wrote this poem on November 6th, 1971, the date that would have been her wedding anniversary
It was titled: My Twenty-fifth Wedding Anniversary (Nov 6, 1971)
As a point of interest her husband Johnnie passed away August 3, 1967 at 52 yrs of age and this poem was written 4 years after what would have been their 25th wedding anniversary -
- Twenty five years ago today when I walked down the aisle in white and gay
- Ten months later it was a joy when I presented Johnnie with Eddie, a baby boy
- Four years later Eugene came along, funny little face but healthy and strong
- Three months later to my surprise Dr Pylypuik told me with a tear in his eyes
- I see you and John are not wasting time at all, you are going to have an addition to your family this fall
- In December Santa came early that year, he brought me a daughter so beautiful and dear
- I picked her name Audrey Mary-Anne, I knew then she will have no trouble to get a man
- Mary-Anne was nine years old when one day I got sick and cold
- I went to see my doctor who is now passed away, he was the one that told me there's a baby on the way
- Early in the morning on February 5th, 1962, it was warm for that time of the year, the skies were grey not blue
- At the hospital that morning nurses were busy with their chores but never too busy to show me my baby Maurice
- On August 3rd, 1967 with sorrow I must say, when God took my husband and my children's father away
- Johnnie my darling, it was God's will I know, but why? did He choose us to suffer so?
- Eddie is engaged now to get married in June, Mary-Anne's wedding is to follow soon
- Eugene is in his second year college, still full of mischief but also full of knowledge
- Myrosik our baby is no baby no more, very much interested in hockey and is eager to score
- Its over four years now since you went away but in our hearts you will always stay
- I'm trying to manage, Johnnie, on my own, but it is a struggle and I'm so alone
- Eddie, Eugene and Mary-Anne are big now and on their own, only Myrosik is still little and he's so alone
- Thank you Johnnie for giving me four children, you would be proud of them as they are all in
- Dear God forgive me for feeling so, this day I can't forget and you should know
- The time goes fast, too fast for pleasure, the time I spent with my husband I will always Treasure.....
