Nacker, Joyce Gertrude. Passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021, age 75 after a long battle with scleroderma. Born October 9, 1945 in Greenfield WI, Joyce was a lifelong resident of Manhattan (after graduating from the University of Wisconsin, Madison).
With a degree in fashion merchandising, Joyce worked for major companies such as Burlington Industries and Cotton Incorporated. She travelled the world on the lookout for new fabric ideas. Conversant in Mandarin, Joyce was one of the first Americans’ to travel to China.
She was also a passionate proponent for the Friends of Riverside Park, Inc. as she served as President and Board Member in the 1980’s.
Later, and for many years, Joyce had a dog-walking, dog-sitting business and in later years also provided hospice care to sick dogs. Joyce was known by her clients and friends (often the same people) and family for her devotion to dogs in her care.
She is survived by her brother, Roger (Karen), a niece, two nephews, many cousins and friends.
She lived a full life on her own terms, but it was exactly what her passions lead her to do. Consequently, if so desired, memorials in her name to the Riverside Park Conservancy, https://riversideparknyc.org/, or, UW Veterinary Care, https://uwveterinarycare.wisc.edu/ would be appreciated. A private celebration will be held at a later date.
