Shane Herbert passed away suddenly while recovering from a serious car accident over 16 months ago. He maintained strength and will to thrive as he endured numerous surgeries with Kelly by his side throughout. During his rehabilitation he was able to connect with family and friends, as well as renew his passion for painting.
Shane is predeceased by his parents Ada (Redsell) and Gerald, as well as his sister Katherine Herbert.
Shane is lovingly remembered by his spouse Kelly (Decker) and children Krissy (Decker) and Cody (Hamelin), Katherine and Jeremy (Herbert), and grandchildren Celeste and Nathalie. Thoughts and prayers are shared by the Herbert siblings Lark, Deborah (late Frank Piccolo), Tim (Virginia) and Todd, as well as by Shane's many nieces and nephews. Shane is also remembered by the Decker family, including parents Ralph and Cheryl, and siblings Greg and Stephen (Wendy).
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at the Ottawa Civic Hospital ICU trauma and Orthopedic departments and the Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre's Acquired Brain Injury unit for their special care and support over the past 16 months. Thank you as well to all family members and friends who have reached out to Shane and Kelly to give them strength since the accident.
A Celebration of Life is postponed due to the pandemic, with a date to be determined. At that time the interment will take place at St. John the Evangelist Church in Enniskerry, Ontario. In honour of Shane's lengthy recovery efforts, donations can be made to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
