Don attended grade school in The Dalles, OR and he graduated from Tigard High School with the class of `44.
Right out of High School, Don enlisted in the US Navy to support the WWII war effort. He had the potentially hazardous task of serving on a munitions supply ship (LSS 522) in the Pacific. Shortly after enlistment, the war concluded and Don served the remainder of his enlistment with the Navy and was honorably discharged.
Don married Jacquelynn Friedrick on August 28th, 1954, in Vancouver, WA. They went on to celebrate 58 wonderful years together. They settled in the Garden Home area moving in 1963 to what would become the family home for generations.
Don loved working on cars and was known as quite a skilled mechanic. Not only did Don enjoy working on cars, he loved to "tinker" with just about anything. His career was in the automotive field where he co-owned Oregon Auto Springs for 20 years before retiring in 1991. Don was an actively involved member of the Model A Ford Club of America, Beaver Chapter. His pride and joy was his beautiful ‘31 Ford Model A pickup. Don was a lifelong member of the NRA.
In his younger years, Don enjoyed family camping, boating, and square-dancing. He loved tending to his vegetable garden as did his father William before him. Don eventually accepted technology (after Jackie purchased him a computer) and he enjoyed "surfing the web" looking things up online. Don helped with the organization of the class of `44 reunions. Don loved peanut butter and Best Foods mayonnaise. It's been said that "he was held together with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, with mayonnaise on nearly everything else". He also had a sweet tooth, especially for semi-sweet or bitter-sweet chocolate. Don was not a drinker, but he always had a cup of coffee in his hand in need of re-heating. He raised a family of dog lovers - everyone in his family has a love of dogs thanks to Don.
Don was an excellent provider. He will be remembered as a good man, practical, frugal, trustworthy, kind, loving and sometimes a bit stubborn but devoted to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving family: wife Jacquelynn "Jackie"; son Doug and daughter Kim Floistad (husband Raymond) of Portland, OR; brother Alan Frame (wife Barbara) of Wamic, OR and sisters Margie Tipton and Muriel Feole, both of Portland; grandchildren: Shawna Floistad (husband Larry Euchi), Jenny Frame (husband Travis Strong) and Melissa Frame-Blackburne (husband Jeremy); great-grandchildren: Skylene and Kiley Frame, Preston Blackburne, and Kaleb and Pawlos Euchi; many nieces and nephews, and treasured family friend Sally Evertz. He is also survived by his heartbroken Sheltie companion, Willow.
Public viewing will be offered in the Chapel at Skyline Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd., Portland, Oregon, on Sunday, January 13th, 2013 at 10am. A celebration of Don's life will begin at 11am and will include lunch at the same location.
