Gerard C.” Jerry” Brown, 60, returned to his Heavenly Father on December 18, 2017 after a valiant five year battle against early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. His devotion to his family, his friends and colleagues and his Savior gave him comfort and strengthened him in his resolve to beat this cruelest of diseases but, while he fought the good fight, the disease overcame his defenses and took him.
Jerry Brown was born in New York on August 1, 1957 to parents James and Jennie Brown. Jerry became a Christian in the mid 1970’s and married his best friend, Deanna McHenry on June 30, 1979. He was a member of the Brooklyn Believers Chapel where he was one of the three sole participants of a discipleship program: Jerry Pastor George Mercado and Greg Daniels, who had determined to disciple each other in Christin faith. They met every morning at a coffee shop at 4 AM to pray, encourage each other, discuss the scriptures and , afterwards, to run a few miles on the streets of Brooklyn, all before going to their daily jobs.
Jerry was an avid writer, poet and playwright. Most of his work was modeled after Christian principles and ethics and a number of his plays were produced and performed in churches. He also took to the pulpit on occasion and taught, preached and encouraged his fellow church members.
Jerry was also a trained hospital pharmacist, working 10 years at New York Cornell Medical Center, later known as Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York. In 1995 Jerry and Deanna moved to Georgia, where most of their family had relocated earlier, and where he continued his hospital pharmacy work, spending 11 years at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, and 5 years at Kennestone Hospital before being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Deanna Brown, sister; Jenine Demartines, brother; Thomas Brown, and many nieces and nephews.
