About

Pacific View Mortuary sits on the breathtaking grounds of Pacific View Memorial Park. Together these sister locations have served the Newport Beach community for more than 50 years. From the first day in 1958 when Pacific View opened its gates in Corona del Mar, it has been our mission to remind visitors of the beauty of life. That ideal is exemplified throughout our funeral home and cemetery grounds. Carefully designed buildings, open courtyards, meticulous landscaping and flowing fountains all express the joy of living and offer a truly remarkable place to celebrate a loved one.

Pacific View Mortuary

Pacific View Mortuary & Memorial ParkThe architectural style of Pacific View Mortuary is a seamless blend of Spanish-California style. The contemporary interpretation reflects the landforms of the surrounding hills and low profile of the Newport Beach residential communities around the facility. The building’s soft curves meld into the landscape and slope above the park. With high-end landscaping, it’s a beautiful environment to celebrate your loved ones and reflect on their legacy. Visitors will enjoy a spectacular view of the city and coastline below.

Brightly colored flowers line the walkway into Pacific View Mortuary. When you enter the building, you will be welcomed into our open lobby, and our serene meeting rooms provide a peaceful place to plan a funeral.

Our chapel seats 160 and is open to all faiths. Featuring tranquil colors of cream and deep blue, the chapel evokes peace, reflecting the comfort of the waters and beaches the funeral home overlooks. Whether you hold a traditional service, a customized celebration of life or a cremation memorial service, the chapel is a lovely space for celebrating your loved one. For events accompanying a funeral service, our reception room offers a gathering place for family and friends to exchange memories. We can accommodate a full-course, sit-down dinner or a simple reception with hors d'oeuvres.

History

In 1960, the University of California Irvine purchased a 1,000-acre plot of land from the Irvine Company for the sum of $1. The site was not the first choice of the regents. Rather, they had their eyes on a plot of land on the slopes of Spyglass Hill, where Pacific View is now located.

John Vibert already had a lease on this beautiful parcel, intending to build a cemetery. He wanted nothing more than this captivating, peaceful view overlooking the ocean. When he heard the university wanted that same plot of land, he sprang into action, quickly arranging for 6 burials on his plot in April of 1959 at no cost to the families. He even exhumed and moved a gentleman’s wife so they could rest together in this beautiful new cemetery. This fast decision secured his lease and set the course for Pacific View Memorial Park.

Pacific View Memorial Park cemetery

Pacific View Mortuary & Memorial ParkLocated on the seaward slopes of the historic Rancho San Joaquin, Pacific View Memorial Park offers a commanding view of the Newport Beach Harbor area, Catalina Island, San Clemente Island and the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The gently rolling slopes of green, lush landscaping filled with palms and flowers are meticulously cared for and offer a breathtaking final resting place for your loved one, as well as a place of peaceful reflection and remembering for you. In addition to traditional lawn burial sites, Pacific View Memorial Park offers private gardens, private family estates, semiprivate gardens and mausoleums.

Garden of Valor

A feature of note in our cemetery, the Garden of Valor pays tribute by recognizing and providing a final resting place to veterans of the military and public servants as well as their immediate family members. Granite memorials honor the 5 branches of the military, as well as firefighters and police. These memorials were constructed in 1995 and were publicly presented during Pacific View’s Annual Memorial Day Ceremony in May of 1995. Daily, Pacific View proudly flies the flags of all military branches, firefighters and police. In honor and respect for their service, specific flags are lowered for the day when we have a service for a deceased veteran or public servant.

Reflections Cremation Garden

Columbarium garden at Pacific View Memorial ParkThe Reflections Cremation Garden offers peaceful and tranquil settings amidst flowing streams, waterfalls and lovely, stepped landscaping. There are many options in our gardens for those who have chosen cremation, including beautiful, freestanding memorials, statues or plaques commemorating a loved one, niches in which to place an urn, cremation boulders in which urns may be placed, pedestals, cremation benches (which may be made with or without remains) and ossuaries. Speak with one of our expert associates to learn about memorials and options in this tranquil setting.

Private family estate mausoleums and build-to-suit lots are also available. A memorial wall to loved ones who lost their lives due to drunk drivers is another awe-inspiring feature of our cemetery.

Community involvement

Pacific View Mortuary and Pacific View Memorial Park are wholly invested and involved in our community. Below are just a few of the unique community events and activities in which we participate.

All-faith Celebration of Life Candle Lighting Services

This event has grown to 2 nights to accommodate all the loved ones being honored. This all-faith event permits families and friends to submit a picture of their loved one for a slide show, light a candle as their loved one’s name is spoken and hang an ornament in honor of their loved one on our tree. Created by us, these ornaments, which feature the loved one’s name, may be retrieved as a permanent keepsake by the families in January. A reception follows to reminisce and honor the lives lost.

We have presented this annual event since 1996, inviting families and friends to attend an evening of music, remembrance and candle lighting, in honor of their loved ones. Attendees are encouraged to submit a photo of their loved one that is added into a touching presentation then shared during the candle lighting ceremony. We now offer this program for 2 nights to accommodate the many families who wish to attend. Following the program, guests are invited to hang an ornament of remembrance on our “Trees of Life” and join us in our reception hall. Please visit our events page for the specific dates or call for more information.

Wreaths Across America

This nationwide event started quietly in 1992 with the laying of surplus wreaths in an older section of Arlington National Cemetery. It has grown tremendously and now includes cemeteries in every state. Laying graveside wreaths and speaking the name of the veterans resting in our cemetery is a small way we can honor and thank these brave men and women for their service and sacrifice.

The Every 15 Minutes program

This important program teaches teens about the dangers of drunk driving and texting while driving. We participate because we believe providing real-life experiences without the real-life risks is the way to bring awareness. The 2-day, mock car crash simulation takes high schoolers through the pains of being in a car wreck, either through losing classmates, losing freedom as the driver or losing their lives. We believe this powerful recreation will save lives and are proud to partner with local law enforcement, courthouses and emergency medical personnel.
