About

Since opening in 1935, Marlatt Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Swackhamer Chapel has provided funeral, burial and cremation services to families in Dundas and surrounding areas. A caring, engaged staff

Our team's presence is known and felt within the close-knit Dundas community, where we work hard to be a good neighbor. We host an annual Easter memorial service to celebrate the lives of those served over the past year. Members of the staff are involved in community organizations such as Dundas Civitan Club, Dundas Lions Club and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 36. We also regularly participate in events such as the annual Lioness Fish Fry and the annual Cactus Fest. Marlatt Funeral Home & Cremation Centre also operates in Hamilton.

History

In 1935, Charles Mitson purchased the Albert J. Brown Funeral Home, located at 171 King Street W., and began building a new funeral home at the present location, just a few doors down, at 195 King Street W. In December of 1959, Charles sold his funeral home to James Donald (J.D.) Marlatt, who owned the J.B. Marlatt Funeral Home in Hamilton. The Mitson-Marlatt Funeral Home, as it became known, was renamed J.B. Marlatt Funeral Home when Charles died in August 1970.

Entrance at Marlatt Funeral Home & Cremation CentreScott Marlatt assumed ownership of both funeral homes after his father, J.D., died in 1973. In 1985, Scott sold the Dundas and Hamilton funeral homes, and in 2006, both Marlatt funeral homes became part of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery providers. Our name changed to Marlatt Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Swackhamer Chapel when we absorbed the Swackhamer Blanchford & Wray Funeral Home in Hamilton in 2009.
