    Ryan Sherrill Bumgarner


    Providing peace and comfort to families in their time of need runs in Ryan Bumgarner's blood. As a third-generation licensed funeral director, Ryan has served Greensboro and its surrounding communities since the late 2000s. Prior to becoming our general manager in 2018, he served as an advanced planning counselor and was the location manager of Thomasville Funeral Home for over 4 years.

    He is a magna cum laude graduate of High Point University and is also a graduate of the mortuary science program at Fayetteville Technical Community College.

    Ryan is married, has 1 daughter and enjoys bird hunting, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family.

    Michael D Geary

    General Manager

    Michael Geary was born and raised in Clarion, PA. He is a graduate of Clarion Limestone High School in 1983 and attended Clarion University of Pennsylvania for two years before enrolling in Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. Following graduation in 1987, Mike began his career with Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Homes and has remained there for over 24 years. He is married and is the father of three children. Mike is a member of Saint Pius the Tenth Catholic Church, the Nat Greene Kiwanis Club and enjoys biking, skiing, and all things outdoors.

    William M Sears


    Mike Sears started working in a funeral home when I was 16 years old riding ambulance. The owner was his mentor and helped him understand funeral service. He worked there during high school and college. Upon graduation from Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science, he and his wife Sheryl and packed all their worldly possession in a small U-Haul and came to North Carolina. For over 25 years Mike was the general manager of a large manufacturing company which served Triad funeral homes. Following early retiring from that, he joined Hanes Lineberry in 2002 and has been the Location Manager of the Sedgefield location since 2007. He enjoys working with the families and recognizes all families are different and have separate needs. He finds it very rewarding by being able to help them during one of the most trying times of their lives. He and his wife have two children and one grandchild. They both enjoy spending time with family and he loves fishing with his son and grandson. Catching a fish is a bonus.

    Angela Erin Geary

    Funeral Director

    Erin Geary, a native of Paris, IL graduated from PHS, attended Indiana Sate University before enlisting in the US Navy. After her service, she graduated from Fayetteville Tech Community College where she earned her Funeral Service Licensee degree. She joined the staff of Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Services in 2000 and in 2006 was awarded the Certified Funeral Service Practice, the highest award in funeral service. She and her husband live in Greensboro and the parents of three children. Erin is an active member of the Business Women of the Triad, volunteers with Reading Connections, and enjoys playing the piano, reading and spending time with family.

    Stephen Alan Sells

    Funeral Director

    Stephen “Alan” Sells was born and raised in Greensboro, NC. He graduated from Southeast Senior High School in 1987. After graduating from High School he attended GTCC and earned a degree in Business Administration in 1992. Then attended UNCG for Accounting. He then attended Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science and graduated in 1995. Alan began his career at Hanes-Lineberry a month after graduation in August of 1995. While employed with Hanes Lineberry Alan also became a certified Preneed counselor and became a licensed insurance agent. Aside from his funeral home family, He is married with three children and has been blessed with three grandchildren, and resides in Jamestown, NC. Alan is a member of Gate City Baptist Church, is a member of Sedgefield Country Club, and enjoys volunteering in various fund-raising projects for non-profit organizations in his community.

    Neil Whitaker N Whitaker

    Funeral Director

    Neil Whitaker was raised in the southeastern N.C. town of Wallace. He started working part-time in funeral service in his junior year of High School in 1965. He graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science and worked with Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point, where he lives for 40 years before coming to Hanes-Lineberry at Sedgefield in 2010. Neil, over the years, has been a trainer in our company for OSHA and the FTC as well as a certified instructor for the funeral home’s outreach program, Dignity Memorial Escape School, teaching children to make smart choices in bad situations. He is a member of Covenant Church United Methodist as are his daughter and two granddaughters. Neil is a collector of vintage funeral memorabilia, NASCAR, advertising and on old car buff, as well owning a 1951 Pontiac Chieftain Deluxe convertible with 19,000 original miles.

    Albert Shuler Lineberry II


    Albert S. Lineberry Jr. (Al) grew up in Greensboro and attended Lindley Elementary, Kiser Jr. High and Grimsley High School. He then graduated from Wingate College and the Wake Forest University School of Business. He joined his dad in 1968 at Hanes Lineberry and earned his North Carolina funeral director license. Al has served all the offices within the company and is still very active today.

    He has served leadership positions in many community, state, national and international organizations and now is active in promoting local education in the youngest years of a child’s life through the board of directors of Guilford Child Development and Ready for School, Ready for Life initiatives. His hobbies include enjoying his family, church (he attends First Presbyterian), community, anything with water, golf and traveling. He is married to Virginia (Ginni) Schenck Lineberry and has a daughter, son-in-law and 2 wonderful granddaughters.
