Building community in Rumford

In addition, our Rumford funeral home hosts many community services for families in the area, including Hearts for Seniors, a St. Patrick's dinner, an outdoor Memorial Day service, Backpacks for Kids, the Holiday Remembrance service, Public Servants Appreciation, Veterans Appreciation and many other community-related events.

Other Rumford events include Purple for a Purpose to recognize Alzheimer's awareness, Go Red to recognize heart disease, community walks for the Children's Cancer Program, the Healthy Hearts 5K and domestic violence awareness, and prevention of cruelty to animals with food and supply donations to local shelters. We are also continuing supporters of the Hope Association, the Dirigo Boys and Girls State Program, Tour de Cure for Diabetes, Voices of the Valley and Relay for Life.

History

S.G. Thibault Funeral Home has been serving families with compassionate care since 1954. We understand the most difficult event in anyone's life is the loss of a loved one.

Our story

On June 4, 1954, Gerard Coulombe purchased the building that was known as the Rowe House on 250 Penobscot Street in Rumford. Renovations were completed for the funeral home that August. Upon Coulumbe's retirement in 1974, he sold the business to his employee, Old Town native and Navy veteran Stephen G. Thibault.

Thibault came to Rumford in 1970 to work for Coulombe and later bought the business, at which time he changed the name from Coulombe Funeral Home to S.G. Thibault Funeral Home.

A focus on local care

Thibault grew the funeral home and continued to work until April 2004, when he welcomed R. Daniel Gauvin—also known as Dan—to serve our families with their funeral and cremation needs.

Dan and his team have been meeting the needs of the community with the same dignity and personalized service that have been the hallmarks of S.G. Thibault since it began in 1954. We remain dedicated to offering families quality funeral and cremation services with a personalized touch.
