About

Elm Ridge Funeral Home and Elm Ridge Memorial Park have provided thoughtful, personalized funerals, cremations and cemetery services in Muncie and Yorktown for nearly a century. Working together, the funeral home and cemetery give families the convenience of making all final arrangements in one place—and are the only providers in the area to do so.

Our welcoming funeral home

Elm Ridge Funeral Home & Memorial ParkThe red-brick funeral home on West Kilgore Avenue is a comfortable venue for memorials, gatherings and cremation services. Whether you are looking for a place to hold a traditional funeral service, contemporary celebration of life or cremation gathering, Elm Ridge Funeral Home is here for you. We serve people of all faiths, ethnicities and backgrounds.

We are the only funeral home in Muncie that has a reception room for families and friends to gather before or after a service. Amenities include a kitchen for catering or serving food, play space for children, tables and seating, and entertainment media. Here, you can host a breakfast buffet, an ice cream social, a sit-down dinner or a simple toast in memory of a loved one. We can decorate the room any way you choose, turning the space into a beachcomber’s paradise, an IndyCar lover’s dream, a swing dance club or a poker den.

The compassionate professionals at Elm Ridge Funeral Home will guide your and your family through every step of the funeral planning process with loving care. They pride themselves on asking good questions and catering to your needs.

Unique lives deserve unique celebrations

Standard reception venue at Elm Ridge Funeral Home & Memorial ParkCertified funeral celebrants specialize in creating personalized funerals and memorials that deeply reflect the personality of yourself or your loved one. These services are as unique as the lives they honor. They are a priceless chance to share a person’s passions and creating a lasting, healing memory. They allow you to celebrate in the way that fits your family’s culture, traditions and preferences. Think: a sunrise memorial followed by a breakfast buffet, a festive dance party with a live band, a formal sit-down dinner or even champagne toast. Start with a story—we’ll take it from there, arranging every detail, from venue to food to music and more.

Distinguished veteran services

memorial dayWhen it comes to honoring military veterans, our level of dedication and commitment is unrivaled. There is almost no limit to what we will do to recognize, honor and pay respect to the courageous men and women who risked their lives for our country. To that end, we offer extra services and recognition to fallen veterans that include:

• Veteran’s first call—When we transport the deceased veteran, we drape the stretcher with the American flag.

• Veteran’s final march—When we accompany the veteran to his or her final resting place, the coach is identified with the American flag and the emblem of the veteran’s branch of service. For those who want a truly special march, we offer a horse-drawn carriage.

• Pallbearer identification—We identify pallbearers by providing each with a lapel pin of the American flag as our gift to them in recognition of their service to a veteran.

• Patriot’s walk—Prior to the arrival of the funeral procession, the cemetery staff installs a double row of flags from the road where the coach will stop to the graveside, creating a patriot’s walk in honor of the veteran. The gravesite is also decorated with special draping for the chairs and lowering device.

• Honor guard—Our local Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Posts maintain a volunteer group of veterans to serve as an honor guard to provide a final salute to a comrade.

Other options range from a dove release and cannon firing to the playing of Taps. Veterans are also eligible for valuable savings on pre-planned funeral and cremation services.

Honoring public servants

We also have the utmost respect for the courageous men and women who protect and serve our community. A simple thank you is not enough to show our gratitude to the heroes who risk their lives for us day after day. Through the Dignity Memorial® Public Servants Program we provide dignified and honorable tributes, at no cost, for career and volunteer public servants who lose their lives in the line of duty.

Cremation services

Signature Dedication at Elm Ridge Funeral Home & Memorial ParkCremation is an increasingly common choice. If you are interested in cremation, the funeral home team can explain the process and the different memorial and burial options. From a direct cremation without a service or a witness to a full funeral service before or after the cremation and more, we help you determine what's best for you and your family. If desired, cremated remains may be buried at Elm Ridge Memorial Park.

Elm Ridge Mausoleum

Mausoleum at Elm Ridge Funeral Home & Memorial ParkOne of the larger mausoleums in the Midwest, Elm Ridge was completed in 1930 and remains a world-class facility. It has base-relief carvings, exotic marbles, and inspiring scriptures and poetry. A room within the mausoleum is dedicated to those from Delaware County who have given their lives in defense of this country, and a special tribute is given to those who remain missing in action from Vietnam. Two chapels are available for committal services.

The 9/11 Tribute Memorial

Unique feature at Elm Ridge Funeral Home & Memorial ParkWe are still responding, each of us in our own way, to the events of September 11, 2001. We will never forget the lives that were lost and the bravery of those who tried to help. We created our 9/11 Tribute Memorial to offer our gratitude to those who gave their lives that day. Built in 2004, the 9/11 Tribute Memorial has two glass towers that light up at night and a bronze memorial plaque sitting amid a pile of rubble. It is a place for people to reflect, pray, remember and heal.
