About

In 1970, Ted and Carolyn Dickey moved to Plano, Texas, bought Harrington Funeral Home, changed the name to Ted Dickey Funeral Home, and quickly earned a reputation for providing caring funeral, burial, cremation and cemetery services to a diverse, multicultural population.

Although traditions and customs have changed during the decades we've been in business, our commitment to helping people through one of the most challenging stages of life has remained the same. Ted Dickey Funeral Home stands for compassionate, professional and personal service. We have the expertise to deliver local burial and cremation options as well as to transport loved ones to funeral homes and cemeteries across North America.

Life well celebrated

Memorialization at Ted Dickey Funeral HomeOur mission is to help families create personalized celebrations honoring loved ones. This approach keeps us open to traditional religious rites as well as highly personalized contemporary gatherings. That means that whether you want a basic cremation with a scattering in a personally meaningful place, a funeral in our cozy chapel with cemetery burial nearby, or a no-holds-barred celebration of life with live music, favorite foods and a send-off that expresses the passions of your loved one, we are happy to deliver that.

Want an afternoon ice cream social? Or maybe an evening wine and cheese gathering is a better fit. Were you thinking of a mariachi band, a taco bar and tiny potted succulents as mementos? If you can imagine it, we can make it happen.

History

Ted Dickey Funeral Home has a long history of service to the families of Plano and North Dallas.

Furniture store beginnings

Ted Dickey Funeral HomeIn 1892, Andrew Wetzel and E.O. Harrington partnered to supply caskets, couches and ambulance services to area residents. As with many funeral service providers of the time, the undertaking activities took place in office space located above the furniture store. When Andrew decided to focus on furniture making, the partners split the business.

Funeral home establishment and expansion

The mortuary, then known as E.O. Harrington Undertaking Company, moved from its second-floor location in downtown Plano to a house located at the west end of the city's 15th Street. E.O., added a 125-seat chapel and a viewing room to the house, and Harrington Funeral Home was born.

It operated as such until June 1970, when Ted and Carolyn Dickey arrived in Plano and bought Harrington Funeral Home. They changed the name to Ted Dickey Funeral Home and began establishing themselves as valuable neighbors and partners in the business community.

In 1974, the Dickeys opened a new 7,200-square-foot mortuary in east Plano, at 18th and Jupiter, across the street from Plano Mutual Cemetery, which still serves the community today. Plano grew, and the couple opened a second location, Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, on the eastbound access road of the President George Bush Turnpike.

Serving the community

Today, Ted Dickey Funeral Home and Ted Dickey West Funeral Home are members of the Dignity Memorial® network of obituary, funeral, burial, cremation and cemetery service providers. Ted is still president of his eponymous funeral home, and both he and Carolyn remain active in the Plano community, helping their friends and neighbors.
