History

Front exterior at Funeraria Del Angel Van NuysFuneraria del Angel Van Nuys in California has a rich history and has gone through many changes over the decades. Our funeral home's history dates back to 1939, when the Praiswater family bought J.J. Whitley Mansion, which doubled as their home and as Praiswater Mortuary until 1994.

Building relationships

Across the street, the Swimley family owned and operated Swimley Funeral Home, which opened in 1929. At its founding, Swimley Funeral Home was known as Ross H. Jones Funeral Home, later changing its name to Meyer-Mitchell Mortuary in 1943. Eventually in 1984, it changed hands and was renamed Pierce-Brothers Meyer-Mitchell.

Combined services

Unique feature at Funeraria Del Angel Van NuysUnfortunately, California's 1994 earthquake caused extensive damage to both funeral homes. Due to this event, Pierce-Brothers Meyer-Mitchell and Praiswater Mortuary merged into a single funeral home. J.J. Whitley Mansion was demolished, and the 2 families broke bread in the Pierce-Brothers Meyer-Mitchell funeral home and at 5940 Van Nuys Boulevard, where the location was undergoing major renovations before reopening in 1995 as Praiswater Meyer-Mitchell.

Tradition of care

Eleven years later, our funeral home underwent its final name change to Funeraria del Angel Van Nuys. Today, we are a proud Dignity Memorial® member and strive to continue serving San Fernando Valley area families with their funeral and cremation service needs.
