Alice Josephine Utas

Born on August 16, 1923, in Chipman, Alberta, Alice was the daughter of John H. Baird and Willie Susan Garrett. She grew up as the youngest child, alongside her siblings Louie, Nanny, Rufus, Carl, and Jim.

In 1946, Alice married Harold John Utas, her partner in life and love, and together they built a home filled with faith, laughter, and resilience. Together, they travelled the world, making many memories and experiences. They were married until Harold’s passing in 1995. Alice was also predeceased by her beloved daughter, Bonny.

Alice’s greatest pride was her family. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Dale (Jennifer), Donald (Linda), and Linda (Brian). Her joy multiplied with the arrival of 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, who will always carry the warmth of her love and stories in their hearts.

A woman of simple pleasures and endless energy, Alice found beauty in the everyday. She was never happier than when tending to her garden, especially her cherished roses, or when pausing to watch the hummingbirds that fluttered nearby. Her hands were rarely still, sewing, knitting, canning, or quilting and even into her nineties, she would be found out picking berries. Her home reflected her heart: full of colour, comfort, and the treasures she collected over a lifetime.

Alice’s faith was steady, and her generosity knew no bounds. She welcomed others with open arms, creating a place where friends and family alike felt cared for. She will be remembered for her warmth, her humour, and her gift for bringing people together around the table, in the garden, or at church.

A service to celebrate Alice’s life will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Aldergrove United Church.

Though we will miss her deeply, Alice’s spirit will live on in the family she cherished, the roses she loved, and the hummingbirds that will always remind us of her gentle presence.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the caregivers and staff who supported Alice with compassion in her later years.
