Bjarne immigrated to Canada in 1959 from Vesterby, Denmark at the age of 15 years. He competed in Ballroom dancing all through Junior and High School.
He was hired on with Air Canada as a ramp attendant and rose to middle management where he introduced new aircraft and wrote the ground handling procedure manuals for that aircraft.
For many years while still working for Air Canada and living in Montreal, Bjarne would take vacation time off to fly to BC and volunteer at the Abbotsford Air Show. He assisted in setting up the static displays as well as towing the civilian performers’0 aircraft to and from the ramp during the show. When our son became a teenager he would accompany his Dad turning it into an annual father and son event. After retiring from Air Canada and moving to BC Bjarne took on making the arrangements for equipment needed for the show as well as continuing to volunteer along with many other Air Canada people who referred to themselves as the “Ramp Rats”. They worked hard but had a lot of fun doing it.
As a boy he lived on the water and enjoyed sailing. As an adult he expanded his horizons and became a private pilot, enjoying every moment he could in the air.
Considering his love of water and air he was a natural when it came to landscape photography. His photos adorn his home and many people not only enjoyed them but he also gifted them over the years.
When our son Erik was ready to move up from Beavers Canada to Cub Scouts the Pack needed leaders, Bjarne joined the leadership team instructing the boys in survival skills while having fun. There were year round weekend camping trips and best of all; a whole week in the summer was always a highlight for the boys and leaders alike. Today there are fine young men who will always remember “AKELA” and his Gourmet Hot Dogs.
His skill in the kitchen produced some of the most delicious meals and treats he shared with family, friends and neighbors. All of whom will remember the time spent together at the dining table.
He was strong and a fighter which helped him beat all the odds to be able to stay with us for 6 years even though 4 and a half was the max given.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, June; son Erik (Deb); grandsons Steve and Connor. He is also survived by his brothers, Paul and Ben; his sister Annette and extended family.
We will love him forever….
June and Erik
