Candice Rose Barfoot (nee: Hampel) passed away suddenly at 35 years of age on January 22, 2017. Candice is survived by her husband Darryl Barfoot, their son Jacob, her parents Robert and Rosanne Hampel, brother Maximilian (Max) Hampel, sister Dalena (Dennison Friesen and their two daughters Hannah and Hailey) and sister Jennifer (Jacob Bruns).
Candice was known for her kind, caring heart and she was giving and forgiving. She was someone who extended herself to those she knew and loved. She had a witty and comical sense of humor with a contagious, welcoming smile. She was all about family and wanting everyone to get along hence she was the “peace maker.” She made many friends throughout her life which attributed to her collecting many nicknames. A few of those were Cleopatra or Queenie and many more, but her favourite nickname was “Babu” which Jacob fondly called her.
Candice was born on June 28, 1981 at Surrey Memorial Hospital, to proud parents Robert & Rosanne Hampel. Growing up in a full and busy household, Robert and Rosanne showered abundant love and grace on their firstborn daughter. Candice enjoyed many summer days playing in the big back yard with her family and friends. She often spent time in the swimming pool watching her Dad make meals over the BBQ. Candice attended both James Ardiel and Mary Jane Shannon Elementary School with her brother. She was a part of the youth group at her church and most Sundays you could find her helping out with the junior Sunday School classes. Candice was also involved in Girl Guides. She graduated from Guildford Park Secondary High School in 1999. Later Candice attended Dominelli’s Aesthetics school where she wanted to specialize in the art of skin care. Her desire then was to open an Aesthetic Clinical practice.
Candice lived in Surrey most of her life. She met Darryl in 2009 through mutual friends and acquaintances. They found that they kept running into each other prior to Darryl officially asking her out. They moved in together 28 days later and Darryl was often referred to as “Sara” because Candice didn’t want people to know that she had met “the one.” In 2011, Candice and Darryl were married in Coquitlam in a private ceremony with close family attending. Their pride and joy Jacob came along in January 2012, completing their family. They moved to Prince George for a short period until finally settling in Abbotsford.
Candice loved exercising – using her punching bag, running on the treadmill, and lifting weights to remain in great physical condition. She also spent lots of time researching health foods, teas, and vitamins and recently took on the ketogenic lifestyle. She felt strongly about being a spiritually good person. Candice loved taking care of her family; especially enjoying moments with her son, Jacob. Candice provided ample opportunities for Darryl, Jacob and her to become involved in the community by joining Strong Start, swimming lessons, cooking classes, Karate and many adventures around Mill Lake Park. She often included her favourite nieces, Hannah and Hailey in these adventures. Candice had two other loves, Jacks and Jagger, her two black cats. She often would take “selfies” with them. Candice was a committed, faithful, and loving wife and mother. She was the best friend to her sisters and brother and was a loving daughter to her parents. Candice’s greatest achievement was marrying the man of her dreams and having Jacob. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
