Carl was born in Loon Lake, Sk. to Joe and Dominika Kubik. He was the middle child (my big brother). As a toddler he became blind in his left eye, the story was that he was kindling wood with a knife and stabbed his eye.
Carl had been an ironworker for 50 years, working in Saskatchewan, Alberta, B.C. and various areas in the U.S.A. He retired at age 70.
Carl had lived with us part time since the 1980’s and then full time after he retired.
He was a great collector of records and memorabilia, and whatever. He loved garage sales, thrift stores and flea markets in Canada and the U.S.A. He became quite well known with this hobby of his.
He had also gone to Alaska and Australia looking for gold, but had only come home with a few small nuggets of gold.
He was very knowledgeable about everything although he only completed grade 4. He was a very interesting storyteller about his experiences. He would talk with strangers, children, and adults, sometimes for hours.
Two years ago, he started with a steady decline. He had a hereditary blood disorder (Osler Webber Rendu); and then a year ago, he was diagnosed with bowel cancer. He stayed with us at home until then with home care help. He went into Cottage Pavilion, a care facility here in Abbotsford, where he stayed until his passing. He passed away peacefully in no pain. He passed away on our Dad’s birthday.
Carl is survived by his brother Joe Kubik (Doris) and their children, Kerry, Myron, Dwaine, Roxanne, Wanda, Gerald, Debbie and Garry, Kerry and Candace’s two daughters Kerrace and Jaylee. Sister Josie Thibodeau (Laurence), sons Jamie (Jenna) and children Raiden and Hadley, and Lanny and his cat Shelly. Sister Ida’s children David, Leo and Sherlyn, sister Julia’s daughter Valerie, many great nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
His parents, Joe and Dominika, sisters and brother-in-laws Ida and Kazek, Julia and Joe, nieces Shirley, Elaine and Susan, predecease Carl.
His storytelling will go on in heaven with everyone.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.woodlawnfh-abbotsford.com for the Kubik family.
