Daniel Marsac Cowan, affectionately known as Dan, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, in Abbotsford, British Columbia, at the age of 78. Born on January 27, 1947, in Chico, California, Dan lived a colorful and charmed life that spanned borders and generations.
Dan’s remarkable career left an indelible mark on Canada’s live entertainment landscape. He was a driving force behind some of the country’s most iconic events. From managing stages at the Juno Awards to overseeing entertainment for the Commonwealth Games and coordinating the Vancouver Olympics torch passing ceremony, Dan brought passion and precision to every production. As a road manager for many Canadian rock acts and a devoted advocate of SKA music, he helped shape the soundtracks of countless lives.
Beyond his work behind the scenes, Dan generously shared his knowledge as a guest lecturer for concert production students. His mentorship inspired many to pursue careers in live event production with the same dedication and flair he exemplified throughout his life.
Dan's love for music extended into his personal time as well—he was an avid guitar player whose appreciation for rhythm and melody never waned. He also had a keen interest in space exploration and followed SpaceX developments with enthusiasm.
Dan is lovingly remembered by his wife Cindy; sons Kris, Bryan, and Mike; daughter Larissa; granddaughters Tiffany, Becca, Matti, Marie, and Zoe; grandsons Cash and Forrest; great-grandchildren Austin, Hunter, Billy, Annie, AJ, Ainsley, Beau, and Brodie. He is also survived by his brother John and sister-in-law Laura; sisters Janet and Becca; brother-in-law Lloyd; along with many nieces and nephews who cherished his vibrant spirit.
Dan's Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, October 26, 2025 (doors 3pm & music at 5pm) at the Slovenian Hall (5762 Sprott St Burnaby).
In memory of Dan Cowan, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated instead of flowers.
