June 25, 1984 – October 2, 2025
It is with shattered hearts that we share the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved Dominique.
She was born and raised in Abbotsford, B.C. She attended Upper Sumas Elementary school, then onto Yale Secondary School until her graduation in 2002. She told her parents from an early age that she would be a teacher and embarked on her teacher’s education graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in History and minor in TESL from SFU. During this time, she had the opportunity to spend four months in Dharamsala, India as part of her final teacher training, an adventure she immensely enjoyed.
Dominique is survived by the love of her life, James Bates. Her loving parents, Ilona and Ernie. Loving brother, Chad and sister-in-law, Pamela, Riesling and Dane Sklapsky (niece and nephew). In-laws: Sandra and Jeff Farina and Jay Bates and Shelley Freedman. sister-in-law, Shani, brother-in-law, Josh. Aunts, Uncles and cousins, along with dear Friends and Colleagues.
She was a beautiful, expressive, and kind-hearted woman who was still at the very beginning of her life. She had a deep love for her family, husband, friends, and animals.
The smile and humour that lightened up the lives she touched may be gone but never forgotten.
