It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing at 90 years young of our mother Doris Elizabeth Goldsmith on Tuesday January 23rd, 2018. She passed on peacefully in the late afternoon at Worthington Seniors Pavilion, Abbotsford where she has resided since June of 2017. Doris is pre deceased by her Husband FRED GOLDSMITH and brothers CLARENCE, ALVIN AND HARRY WEST as well as parents EDITH and HERBERT WEST .
Doris leaves behind 2 daughters, Linda Darlene FEDJE of Surrey, Gloria Jean GOLDSMITH of Abbotsford and many nieces and nephews living throughout the province of BC. Doris was born in Staunton Saskatchewan and moved to BC with her family at the age of 8. She shared many stories over the years of travelling cross country with the family in the back of a bumpy and very uncomfortable “Old truck”. She married in 1947. Doris and Fred raised Linda and Gloria in Abbotsford at their house on Marshall Road and celebrated over 60 years of marriage. Doris was an excellent homemaker and even had a short stint in the retail business when she was active with the family satellite company, Western Antennas.
She enjoyed travelling, attending dog agility meets with her friend Hazel, visits with friends and family. In the years prior to taking up residence at Worthington she regularly enjoyed plane rides, visits to the local flying club, car shows with Fred’s old restored ’52 Ford and motorcycle rides with her daughter and her friend Chris Hibbert. She Looked “pretty cool” on the back of a motorcycle and always knew how to “lean into the curves “when out and about for a ride on a beautiful sunny day.
Doris will be remembered by anyone she met for her warmth and friendliness towards children, her mischievous smile and wit as well as her willingness to share a good laugh and play a practical joke or two on many an unsuspecting family member or friend. She loved her chats and storytelling sessions around the kitchen table and was always more than eager to “lend an ear” or voice her opinion whether asked for or not.
She loved animals and one of her greatest joys was her Shari Pei Buster whom she spent many hours teaching tricks or just sitting beside her chair in the living room. She was also the daily “dog sitter” for daughter Gloria’s dog Halley for many years and the two of them resolved many of the world’s problems in a day while Gloria was at work.
A Celebration of Life will be held later in the spring at Worthington Pavilion to accommodate easier travel for many friends and relatives who live up country where winter travel is very treacherous at this time of year.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, care aids and support staff for their loving care and attention that Doris received during her time at Worthington.
