Hector Johnson Stewart passed away on October 14, 2018, quietly and with dignity at Abbotsford Regional Hospital & Cancer Centre, at the age of 78. I am so grateful to all the staff of HAU and ICU who looked after him and the family so caringly. I'd also like to thank Lorena Littke and the staff at Henderson's Fraser Valley Funeral Home for their kindness and compassion.
Hec was born and raised in Nelson, BC, and loved to visit as often as he could. His last trip was when he and Dale visited for their honeymoon in October 2013. The cottonwoods were glorious and the air was crisp. The weather was superb. Using Nelson as a centre we visited Kaslo, Trail, Proctor and Nakusp.
Hec was a gentle soul, caring and sharing. He loved photography, travel, fishing, drives, picnics, and gardening (his ‘vineyard’ was a great pleasure to him, especially when it yielded a good crop for pots of jam)!
A master of the BBQ and his hobby train; both required patience at which Hec excelled.
He had a great sense of humour, a huge wonderful laugh. Hec never grumbled about his physical limitations. “This is the way it is, just get on with life” was what he said. At 75 years of age he decided to retire.
I am blessed to have shared Hec’s life for 6½ years; a couple of old married folks, having known each other as kids in Nelson, and in Vancouver as young people. We shared our senior lives for a while.
Heckie boy – I will love you always and miss you much.
I invite family and friends to please share your memories with Hec on Henderson’s online condolences page for Hector.
