Honorina is predeceased by her cherished husband Armando Soares Dutra, and is survived by her four children, Alfred, Maria (Sid), Edward, and Frank, her six grandchildren, Yuseph (Larissa), Kareem (Stephanie), Eduardo, Miranda, Rachel, and Avery, and her five great-grandchildren, Alainna, Rylie, Presley, Skylar, and Dahlia, and many other extended family and friends.
Honorina was born on April 19th, 1929 on the Portuguese island of Sao Miguel, in the parish of Rabo de Peixe in the county of Rebeira Grande, to parents Agostinho Goncalves da Silva and Maria da Gloria Goncalves. Honorina married her husband Armando in Ribeira Grande on August 6th, 1952. Armando immigrated to Canada in 1954 and then the following year Honorina with Alfred and Maria joined
him in British Columbia. Edward and Frank were born in Abbotsford, at which time the family settled on a Clayburn dairy farm.
Honorina worked tirelessly on the family dairy farm for many years. She was a longstanding parishioner of St Ann’s Catholic Church, even though in later years did not attend, but would faithfully watch daily mass on television.
She lovingly cared for her beautiful garden and roses, and baked incredible Portuguese pastries for her children and grandchildren. Honorina will be remembered with love as a hardworking, strong, and understated woman with a big heart. Along with her memory, her blueberry pies, sweet bread,
and malassadas will be remembered and missed dearly by her family.
A Funeral Mass to honor Honorina’s life will be held on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 33333 Mayfair Ave, Abbotsford.
Honorina will be laid to rest peacefully beside her husband Armando at Hazelwood Cemetery.
