

It is with great sadness that the family of Irene May Penner (née Dueck) announces her peaceful passing on July 16, 2026, at the age of 95.
Irene was born on September 3, 1930, in Swalwell, Alberta, to Henry and Marie (Giesbrecht) Dueck. She was raised during the Great Depression alongside her four brothers and one sister, where she learned the values of hard work, resilience, and love of family that would guide her throughout her life. In1948 The family moved to the Fraser Valley for a milder climate and more employment opportunities.
She married the love of her life, Douglas "Sid" Penner, and together they built a loving home and thriving farm and raised six children. Irene found great joy in caring for her family. She was known for her warm hospitality, delicious baking and home-cooked meals, beautiful flower gardens. Her home was always a welcoming place where family and friends felt loved.
Nothing brought Irene greater happiness than spending time with her family. She treasured every opportunity to gather with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
Irene will be lovingly remembered by her children, Garry (Cathy), Randy (April), Cindy Peturson (Dave), Michael, Craig (Lore), and Michelle Davies (Steve); her nine grandchildren; her ten great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Sid; her parents, Henry and Marie Dueck; her brothers, Gordon, Irvine, and Edwin Dueck; and her sister, Agnes. Mom is survived by one brother Peter Dueck in Saskatchewan.
A Celebration of Irene's Life Service will be held in her honour on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, British Columbia.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors and nurses at Fraser Health, who provided Irene with such compassionate care and support during her final days.
