It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jake Hooge announce his passing on the morning of July 27, 2018 at Abbotsford Regional Hospital. After a sudden stroke he passed away 2 days later, peacefully, with his wife and two daughters by his side.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Betty, his children Ron (Janice), Judy (Walter), Jack (Ellen), Kathi (Charles), Lori (Ray), and Larry (Sharon), his 18 grandchildren, and his 40 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Henry. He was predeceased by his parents Heinrich and Helena, his brother George, and his sister Lydia and his son-in-law Walter Peters.
Jake was born in Grossweide, Ukraine. He immigrated with his family to Canada in 1926. He owned several businesses in the Abbotsford area. His first business was a general store and gas station at Ross Ravine. He later owned a clothing and fabric store in Clearbrook, and then a fabric store in Abbotsford known as Hooge's Fashion Fabrics.
Among other things, Jake enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing games, working on the yard, writing and memorizing poetry, teasing his grandchildren, and especially travelling with Betty. Together they made many special trips in their camper, and around the world.
His family will miss his outgoing nature, great sense of humour, kindness, and generosity.
Jake loved the Lord, and is now with Him in Heaven. We will see him again!
A celebration of dad's life will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 1:30 pm in the Bakerview Church on Clearbrook Road. In lieu of flowers a donation to The Gleaners Society would be greatly appreciated.
