Jake was born in Strausberg, Paraguay on December 19, 1955 to Isaac and Anna Wall. The family of ten immigrated from Paraguay to Canada in 1966 with the help of the Mennonite Central Committee. He married Nancy Newton in 1975 and they lived in Abbotsford, BC where they raised their three daughters; Daphne, Tracy and Rebecca.
Jakob was predeceased by his parents, Isaac and Anna Wall; his siblings Peter and Susie (both passed away in infancy), and Maria, and his grandson Tristen Angelo Wall. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy, his three daughters and their husbands; Nancy’s son Brett and his wife, his six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and his six siblings.
His life was characterized by a deep and enduring faith in Jesus Christ. Jake was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and child of God. Jake loved community. He had the ability to find people whom other people might overlook and bring them into relationship. He was a natural encourager and was able to both see and affirm the strengths and qualities in other people.
Jake had a playful and humorous side. He loved being the instigator of practical jokes and as he aged, he earned his “honorary doctorate” in corny dad jokes, grandad jokes and great grandad jokes. He loved to laugh and was able to enjoy the humorous side of life.
Jake had a gift of serving others and delighted in meeting the needs of other people. He made a career of working with his hands in construction, usually in drywall but he really was a “jack of all trades.” Jake was well known as the guy who was always willing to lend a hand. He was the kind of guy who would show up with his tool belt to help you with a project, haul your garbage away and he volunteered to help around the condominium complex in several capacities.
Jake had a burden to see people come to know the Lord. Both in his personal life and through his affiliation with the Christian Bikers, he was active in sharing his faith whenever the opportunity arose.
Jakob Wall was a loving man and will be greatly missed.
