Linda leaves behind her husband, Al Willms, of 59 years, daughter Carrie (Gord) Samplonius, grandsons Casey (Molly) and Tyler (Robyn) Samplonius and five great grandchildren, Connor, Holly, Levi and Maria, and Lief, all of Abbotsford BC, as well as two sisters, Verna Dalke and Judy Lipinsky (Walter), along with nieces and nephews, Laurie, Tommy, Shawna, Mark and Katryna, and several great nieces and nephews, all from Winnipeg.
Linda was born on June 18, 1942, the eldest of three daughters, to Abe and Anne Doerksen of Stonewall, Manitoba. Growing up she lived in the rural communities of Stonewall and Warren, completing grade 11 there.
She attended Success Business College in Winnipeg, beginning a career with United Grain Growers as a secretary, to eventually become an executive secretary. Linda was a lady through and through, carrying herself with grace and attention to detail in her appearance, interactions, and work. During this time, she gave her life to the Lord at Calvary Temple, a decision resulting in a life change which led her to attend Winkler Bible School for two years.
During the summer break, Linda met a tall, dark, handsome young man from British Columbia, the brother of her pastor at Salem Mennonite Brethren Church. Their relationship grew with multiple letters exchanged over many months and developed into marriage.
In March 1967, she followed her husband to Abbotsford, where she built a new life and was warmly welcomed by Al’s large family. They were blessed with one precious daughter, Carrie Lynn. Years later, two special grandsons and five great grandchildren brought her many joyful moments. She often spoke of her love for the mountains, enjoying many drives through them, her favourite being to Hope.
Throughout Linda and Al’s 59 years together, many trips were made between Abbotsford and Winnipeg. Linda was a gentle soul, fun-loving, with an easy laugh and a ready smile. She could entertain a room with her silly stories, causing much laughter. Spending time with her family was of utmost importance. Right to the end of her life, her eyes would light up whenever she saw them.
Above all, Linda had a strong faith in the Lord and knew God’s presence and faithfulness remained with her throughout her life. We know she is at peace in the arms of her loving Saviour.
