Mark Stephen Davis

29 October , 197114 December , 2018

On Friday, December 14, 2018, Mark Stephen Davis, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at age 47.

Mark was born on October 29, 1971, in Abbotsford, BC, to Clarence and Ileene (Conroy) Davis. On October 9, 1994, he married Sherry Lynn Mernickle-Oslie. They had two sons, Nathanial and Joshua. Mark achieved the Red Seal Journeyman Chef accreditation, and remained in the food services industry for almost 20 years before transitioning into Strata Property Management, where he not only earned his Strata Property Management designation but Residential Management and Managing Broker designations. He had found his niche in his new career, he was a walking encyclopedia and a wealth of information who was happy to share his knowledge with anyone who asked.

Mark had a passion for food, family and fun. He worked hard, played harder, and was loyal and loved fiercely. Vacations with the whole family or just with Sherry, were always being looked forward to in anxious anticipation. He was so proud of Sherry, Nathanial and Joshua and would brag to anyone who’d listen. He was known for his hard work, big heart, quick wit, sense of humour, animated story telling and could be heard saying “It Is What It Is” when there just wasn’t anything else to say.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of 24 years Sherry, two sons Nathanial, and Joshua, parents Clarence and Ileene (Conroy) Davis, sister Mona (Brian) Davis, in-laws Craig and Arlene (Wardrop) Oslie and Jim and Angie (Declare) Mernickle, brother-in-law’s Cory (Jamie) Mernickle-Oslie, Christopher (Lyndsay) Oslie-Jones, Larry Mernickle, and Jordan Mernickle, nephews Christopher (Maia) Davis and Stephen (Clara) Davis, and Logan Mernickle-Oslie, nieces Amy Davis and Lily Mernickle-Oslie, Great-Niece Elena Davis Oostenbrink, and several Aunts , Uncles, Cousins and Extended Family.

I worked with Mark as a Strata Member and Owner at 31098 Westridge Place. Hartwell.

Mark always went out of his way to help and I think gave more time then he sometimes needed as he was so meticulous and thorough. His knowledge, wit and kindness was put into everything he did for me, as an Owner, and at our Strata Council Meetings.

I also worked in damage claims, and remember fondly Mark prodding me gently to join Strata Council upon hearing of my profession. He won after some time, and I enjoyed working there, mostly due to Mark's involvement and expertise in everything he touched. He was also extremely kind to me personally, which I so fondly remember today. I just learned today of his passing (March 27, 2019) and am devastated. I am so sorry to have missed his funeral.

My heart, mind and thoughts go to his family and friends, co-workers and loved ones.

He will be missed.

My heartfelt condolences to Sherry and family. I worked with Mark at NAI for 3 years. Mark always had a smile and his favorite words were " it is what it is". He spoke of his family often and we used to swap Vacation stories and people we meet along the way.
He will be missed in many hearts.

You won't likely remember our family but my oldest daughter attended elementary and part of middle school with your oldest son. But I want to share a memory of Mark that I still remember to this day. We had moved to Malaysia in 2012 but came back to Canada for a month in the summer of 2015. We happened to come to your garage sale that you held one Saturday that summer and made the connection with Mark that our two oldest children had attended the same school. We found a few items at your garage sale - toys and a few other things that your sons no longer played with - and as we were chatting with Mark we mentioned that we were just back for a visit from Malaysia and were looking for some children's items for the Christian school we were teaching at in Malaysia. Once Mark heard that, he refused to accept payment for the items and even started to excitedly pick up other garage sale items that he thought would be great for us to bring back to the school - no charge. We insisted we didn't mind paying and we couldn't take much back with us anyway for space reasons, but it was his excitement and interest in our endeavours, his generosity, and friendliness that has stayed with me to this day. It was perhaps a small moment but it made a huge impact on my life. My thoughts are with you.

To Mark’s family. Willa and I wish to pass on our condolences for the tremendous loss you have suffered. We don’t have the words to say or smooth over what you must be feeling. When we received the call from Linda saying Mark had passed away I found it incomprehensible of all people, Mark, had passed away. Clarence summed it up best when he said “your kids are not meant to die before you”. A sentiment that only a parent can truly relate to. Willa and I were not able to attend Mark’s celebration of life as both of us have be down with the flu for the past two weeks. We truly regret not being able to attend and help share the burden of your unmeasurable loss. Sherry you and your family are in our thoughts and prayer.
