Originally trained as a Chef and with a background in high-end hotels, Martin transitioned to a career in the funeral industry, where he left an indelible mark with his dedication and compassion. His journey in the U.K. began with Barrells Funeral Directors in Portsmouth, England, before he embarked on a new chapter in Canada alongside his wife, Heather.
In Canada, Martin obtained his class 1 license and worked as a semi-truck driver allowing him to see most of North America in his travels before returning to his passion for funeral service. He earned his Saskatchewan Funeral Director’s license in 2016, beginning a meaningful tenure at Saskatoon Funeral Home. Later, he joined Providence Funeral Services in Penticton, where his leadership skills saw him rise to manage multiple locations. Most recently, he served as a respected funeral director at Henderson’s Fraser Valley Funeral Home in Abbotsford, BC.
Martin’s compassionate nature and eloquence with words were evident to all who knew him. He possessed a rare ability to offer comfort and solace to those in need, drawing from his own life experiences to empathize deeply with others. Martin's affable personality endeared him to everyone he encountered, making fast friends wherever he went. His professionalism and dedication to his craft earned him widespread admiration and respect within the funeral industry.
Martin is survived by his devoted wife Heather, his children Casey (Brom), Dani (Jordan), Claire (Richard), Vicki (Steve), Jennifer (Jim), his mother Susanne Hooper, father David Hooper, sister Teresa, as well as his cherished grandchildren.
A private celebration of Martin's life will be held with his family, and his ashes will be scattered at White Rock, BC, a place dear to his heart.
Martin has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Peace Arch Hospice Society’s “Comfort Fund.” By doing so you will be providing for the comfort of patients and families going through what Martin and his family went through.
