It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad and Grandpa, Masaru (Mas) Takeuchi on Sunday December 09, 2018 at the Cottage Pavillion in Abbotsford, B.C. Dad was predeceased by his wife, Jean, whom he loved and missed dearly.
Left to cherish his memory are his children and grandchildren: Craig (Maki), Travis (Elizabeth, Adam, and Tomas), Daryl (Karen), brothers Sueo, Seiji, and Sumio (Ann), sisters in-law, Sally, Yuri, Starr, and Amy Nagamatsu, and Nancy (Henry Sumi), and many nieces and nephews.
Mas was born into a large family in Whonnock, B.C. Dad’s family was relocated during the war to Hastings Park, to Lemon Creek, Middlechurch, and then settled near the outskirts of Winnipeg, MB. There, Dad met and married the love of his life Jean. Together, they spent 57 years until her passing in 2016. After spending the early years of their marriage in Winnipeg, they returned to B.C., raising their family and residing in Abbotsford.
Dad was the perfect father, with a strong work ethic and family values. He was a hard worker who was devoted to provide the best for his family. Never missing activities, practices or games meant he was at times an assistant, a coach, but always a parent first and foremost.
Dad was proud to be a Journeyman Carpenter, and was part of crews that built an aircraft hangar at YVR, the Knight Street Bridge, the MSA Hospital, Fraser Ridge High Rise, and the McCallum Medical Tower in Abbotsford. During the 80’s and 90’s, Dad worked for S.D. 34 and loved to joke and prank. One is still able to see his ‘Concrete Statue’ that oddly sits on the Abbotsford Senior School grounds along the Bevan Avenue fence.
After retirement, Dad spent many hours of enjoyment on wood projects, with the Valley Wood Carvers club, and in his garden. Dad will fondly be remembered for his love of family, his sense of humor, and hidden artistic talents.
Our family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Sarah Pawlovich, Gary, Mariola, Cyprian, and Sheila for daily care as well as their compassion and support for Dad over these past years.
Flowers and Koden gratefully declined.
