Maureen Ann Calhoun

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Maureen Ann Calhoun (Crook) at the age of 86. Maureen was born in Vancouver, BC, on October 11, 1939. Maureen was predeceased by her husband, Blaine, and her parents, Eleanor and Morris. She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen and Deneen; grandchildren, Jaime, Jessica, Justyne, and Hannah; and great-grandchild, Lily. An only child, she grew up in North Vancouver and spent her life creating a cherished circle of family, friends, and community around her.

Maureen had a natural ability to connect with others. She rarely met a stranger she couldn’t turn into a friend. Her distinctive laugh was often the first thing people noticed, but it was her warmth and charm that made her so memorable. Whatever circumstances came her way, Maureen approached life with optimism and an ability to find something to enjoy.

As a hairdresser, Maureen enjoyed a career that allowed her to spend her days with people. She enjoyed dressing up for any holiday event that she might be volunteering in or her social clubs. Maureen enjoyed staying connected and was happiest when surrounded by people and family.

Maureen and her beloved husband, Blaine, enjoyed almost 40 years together, sharing a love of travel and leisure. They loved to share stories of trips down to Yuma, Arizona in their fifth wheel with their dear friends, Merv and Marg. Whether on the road or closer to home, she enjoyed a good game of cards and was always ready for some friendly competition—every now and then, someone might discover that Maureen had made an appearance at the casino, enjoying herself and trying her luck.

Maureen will be remembered for her youthful spirit, her genuine nature, and her ability to find enjoyment in what others would call an ordinary day. She leaves behind a legacy of making people feel welcome wherever she went.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all.
