Nellie was born in Ponass Lake, Saskatchewan to Fred and Annie Zazula. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 44 years John and brothers Steve, John, Andrew, Alec, Dan and Nick. Nellie is survived by her brother Mike and sisters Elsie and Mary.
Nellie was the first girl born on her family farm and although she grew up there she was scared of almost all the animals. She would always laugh and say that her father would tell her to never marry a farmer as she would be good for nothing to him. When she turned 17 she met a handsome and patient man named John that she married the following year. John knew the farm life wasn’t for Nellie so he moved her to the city of Winnipeg to start their life together.
There they had two children David and Debbie. While in the city Nellie taught herself to sew and worked at the local grocery store. Throughout the years their family was always close by and many lived with them from time to time. After their children grew up and moved out John and Nellie decided to move to BC. Soon after their daughter Debbie followed. Over the years the family grew to include three Grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Nellie could always be found in the kitchen helping clean (she was a bit of a neatfreak) even when it meant putting things away in places she couldn't remember. Most people couldn't even guess as to where she had hid them as they were usually eventually found in such random places. If you couldn't find her in the kitchen you could usually find her either in the yard gardening or playing in the laundry room with her meticulously perfect folding or stitching and mending of the grandkids clothes. Nellie was lovingly known to her grandchildren as Nan and when not trying to help out around the house she loved to play games and cards with the children. In Nellie’s spare time she enjoyed reading the bible and listening to Christian music. Her two greatest loves in life were her family and Jesus. When she moved into Tabor Home she was well known for her happy, loud and excited outbursts during Sunday service.
Nellie will always be loved and missed by her family and friends but we take peace in knowing she is right where she has always wanted to be with the Lord her Saviour.
As per her request there will be no service but a small memorial at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family would ask that you make a donation to the BC Children's Hospital which is close to their hearts.
