Born in Abbotsford, BC on December 29,1961 to his proud parents just minutes after his twin brother Len. Always the quieter one but one half of a whole. They shared a deep bond and working together, they started their company Groothof Trucking at the age of 19. Roy took over ownership when he decided to stop working on his Dad’s Dairy Farm and go into trucking full time. He ran our Company with integrity, a strong work ethic and the help of our valued employees and was well known in the forest and agricultural industry.
Roy loved his family and dedicated his time helping his kids and grandchildren of whom he was so proud. He loved travelling with his wife and boating, fishing, making huge fires, camping, and hanging out with his circle of friends. Always up for an adventure he loved to work hard and play hard at his beloved cabin where his journey to Heaven began. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, strength, loyalty, and a willingness to help people quietly behind the scenes.
Roy will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 39 years, Cheryl. Children, Alyssa (Michael), Carson, Sophia, Hailey, and Olivia. Son Ethan (Melissa) Roy, Jake, Emma, and Ada. Daughter Alexandra (Matthew). Parents Henry and Alice, siblings Len (Angela), Bernice (Darren), Stanley (Monica). Brother-in-law Kevin (Kim), Father-in-law Ray and Mother-in-Law Ann, as well as many nieces and nephews. There are a multitude of family and friends who will miss him more than words can ever say.
A celebration of Life service will be held at Gateway Community CRC, 2884 Gladys Ave, Abbotsford on May 5th, 2026, at 1:00pm.
