OBITUARY

Valerie Lynne Swerhun

26 July, 19625 October, 2020

Valerie Lynne Swerhun was blessed to Ray and Lynne (nee Blyth) Swerhun on July 26, 1962. Born and raised in Vancouver, the family lived a few houses down from Renfrew Park where her and Leonard were avid swimmers and active members of the local swim club. As a family they travelled often with or to visit relatives widely spread across western Canada. Expo 1967 was a huge family endeavour.

With a dozen aunts and uncles plus their spouses and over 20 first cousins, there was always an abundance of family around. Living only 2 blocks from the Renfrew bus to downtown and the PNE/ Coliseum their home became Grand Central for visiting relatives. And gave Val the perfect opportunity to pull her little pranks on us. Some were funny, others not! All in good fun.

Valerie loved the outdoors and was at her best lounging around Cabo beaches, rafting rivers (like the Tatshenshini in 2000), or just walking her favourite section of the near by Fraser River. The outdoors was her element.

In 1991 Valerie met Keith and began the relationship that would last her life time. Together, they found love and laughter spending many years in Vancouver on Upland Drive before relocating to Abbotsford in 2006. As Keith frequently travelled with his job, Valerie was content to maintain the home and provide a loving environment for her beloved rescue cats. One poor dear with only three legs.

Love, life, and laughter connect us as we remember Valerie, her role in our lives and connection to our hearts. xo

Val, was my best friend for forty-five years. We met in grade eight at Windermere high school, played on many sports teams together. Field hockey, lacrosse and ice hockey. I could call her anytime, and she would always be there for me. She was a good friend and I will really miss her, and her sense of humor, that sometimes her and I only understood. Rest in peace my friend.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of cousin Valerie. It has been a few decades since we last saw Valerie, 1999 I believe at the family reunion and before that when Valerie visited Thunder Bay, such fun times that was and before that when we visited Vancouver in the early 80's. Valerie, such a heartwarming person.
Our condolences to Leonard and Keith.
May you find peace in knowing that Valerie is now at peace.
Love Al & Katherine and family

Keith, thank you for being a loving and caring partner to Valerie throughout the years. I’m sure you shared many happy memories.

Valerie, our sweet cousin. I remember you most now as a curly haired little girl. Lynne/Your mom had such a struggle keeping your two piece bathing suit on you. You’d compromise by wearing the bottoms ... some of the time. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Such a natural in the great outdoors.

You were always so smiley, bubbly and full of life. I will hold these memories of you close in my heart.

💐 May you Rest In Peace Valerie. 🙏

Our thoughts are also with you Leonard.

Definitely in her element when in the great outdoors. That smile is one of pure joy!

Keith, our family can't thank you enough for always being there for Valerie. You were most certainly her 'rock' - and you stood by her through thick and thin. For that, we will be forever grateful.

Rest in peace, dear Valerie. I will always love you.

I shall miss our phone conversations, and cherish the memories of our adventures.
You and your family were our Vancouver connection. We watched you grow up as one of the youngest cousins, and put up with your pranks.
Whatever you need, we’re here Keith.
Love and hugs! Donna xoxoxo
