Brad was born on February 12, 1947 in Newmarket Ontario. Throughout his life, he was known for his determination, sense of humour, generosity, and passion for learning. Brad was a respected Notary Public whose career was marked by dedication to his clients and community. His most meaningful professional contributions were made in Coquitlam, BC, where he built lasting relationships and became a trusted advisor to generations of residents.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy (Evan) Machin, and grandchildren Hunter, Elinor, Kate; and his daughter Tess (Owen) Beasley, and grandchildren Ryan and Jase, as well as his siblings Terry, Linda, and Nancy. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Shirley Miller, and his parents Bill and Betty VanZant.
After receiving a terminal diagnosis only days before his passing, he chose Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), facing the end of his life with dignity and on his own terms, allowing him to pass peacefully with his daughters at his side. The family would like to thank the healthcare professionals and caregivers who provided support and guidance during his final days.
A lifelong learner, Brad spent much of his life in the pursuit of knowledge, always eager to explore new ideas, perspectives, and experiences, driven by a deep curiosity about the world. In his younger days, Brad was a baseball, basketball, hockey player, an avid golfer, reader and soccer/basketball/volleyball/baseball dad. In his later years, Brad's focus turned more to his friends and family, proudly following the achievements of his daughters and their children.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BC Cancer society, if desired.
The family will gather privately to celebrate his life and memory.
