Mom was born in September of 1932 in Greenville S.C. to Ransom and Mariel Childers. In 1947 she married Frank Camarillo, a marriage of 76 years, and a member of the US Air Force. As an Air Force family they lived the military life in Alaska, Maine, South Carolina, Spain and Abilene Texas. As a wife of a military serviceman she had many stories of military responsibilities that she herself fulfilled on behalf of her military husband.
Outside of military life, mom worked for Joe Hodges D.D.S., a career spanning 26 years only to retire due to her own health related illness. After defeating a cancer diagnosis through chemo and surgeries, she assumed a retired life enjoying her family of grandkids and great grandkids, following them to many tennis lessons, tournaments, marriages, births and helping out wherever she could.
She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene from the late 60’s until her passing in 2026 a journey of 66 years that was forever in her heart. She taught several Sunday School classes, vacation bible school classes, supported missions and later was an active member of the Church Prime Timers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Herman Childers, sisters Vera Evans and Margaret Moog and daughter Starr Camarillo. She is survived by her sons Frank Camarillo Jr (Donna), Barry Camarillo (Becky) grandchildren Ryan Camarillo (Shao), Bria Varner (Greg), Bridget Camarillo, great grandchildren Evangeline Camarillo, Chase Camarillo, Gideon Varner, Layden Joy, sister Sylvia Davis, brother Ken Childers (Christine) and many nieces and nephews of South Carolina and Texas.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at First Church of the Nazarene in Abilene with funeral services following at 11:00 AM officiated by Harlan Humiston. A committal service will be 1:00 PM that afternoon at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.
