Daniel "Danny" De La Garza, 60, of Abilene, TX, passed away on January 4, 2025. Born on December 17, 1964, Danny was known for his vibrant personality, being the life of the party, and having a huge heart. He never met a stranger, had many friends and could light up any room with his presence. For that, he acquired many nicknames; "Disco, Frog, Disco Duck" and various others.
He spent his career as a beloved head cook at the ACU Bean for many years, and one of the 1st Cooks at Texas Roadhouse, before turning his talents to painting. His hobbies included joking, dancing, and cooking, always bringing joy and laughter to those around him.
He is survived by his daughters, Amanda Nava (Edgar) of Melissa, TX, Danielle Hernandez (Elias) of Abilene, and Olivia Shelburne (Nathan) of Abilene; brothers, Antonio "Tony" Jr of Alba, Ruben of Kennedale, Ricky and Gilbert De La Garza, whom reside in Abilene. Danny was also a cherished grandfather to Daylen Powdrill, Tristan Powdrill, Araceli Hernandez, Raelynn Shelburne, and the soon-to-be-born Julian Nava. His nieces and nephews: Lisa, Ruben Jr, Randy, Ricky Jr, Josh, Cherish, Cindy, Steven and Anthony; numerous friends and relatives will also hold his memory dear.
Danny was preceded in death by his loving parents, Micaela and Antonio De La Garza, and his sister, Mary Alcala.
Services to honor Danny's life will include a viewing at Elliot-Hamil, a prayer service at 6 pm on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 followed by a rosary. The burial mass will be 10 AM on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church.
Pallbearers: Josh, Ruben Jr, and Randy De La Garza, Tony Devora, Edgar Nava, Nathan Shelburne, Elias Hernandez and Isaac Ramos. Honorary Pallbearers include Tristan and Daylen Powdrill.
The family expresses gratitude towards the angelic staff at Hendrick Hospice and Methodist Richardson Medical Center.
Danny's legacy of warmth, laughter, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
