

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 23, 2013, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, with Craig Churchill and Jerry Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Tye Cemetery with full military honors, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Dennis will be buried beside his wife Hazel. The family will receive friends at a visitation 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Dennis was born November 8, 1918 to Burl and Kate Hodges in Murchison, Texas. He married Hazel Lea Griffith and their union continued for 52 years. Dennis served 30 years of continuous service with the United States Military, four years in the United States Army Corp and twenty-six years in the United States Air Force. He retired from Dyess AFB in 1969. During his military service, Dennis and his family lived in numerous states including Texas, Nebraska, Florida, and Colorado. He loved photography and for many years pursued photography in both his military and civilian career. After retirement, Dennis worked in conjunction with the Abilene Police Department as a Criminal Photographer. In addition, he also worked with the Atlas missile, the B47 bomber and the B52 bomber. Dennis was a member of Tye Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse, Hazel Lea Hodges; and one grandson, Harold Morton Boyd III.
Survivors include his children, Sandra K. Roath, Phyllis D. Boyd and son-in-law, Harold Boyd Jr. and Dennis K. Hodges and spouse, Carolyn of Little Rock, Arkansas; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
