Elijah "Bo" Thomas

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2013, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 608 North 7th Street, Abilene, with Pastor Matthew M. Lubin, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Abilene City Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Elijah was born on November 3, 1938 to the proud parents of Thurman Thomas and Annie Lee Thomas in Swenson, Texas. He moved to Abilene, Texas when he was nine years old. Elijah attended school at Woodson Elementary and Woodson High School in Abilene, Texas. He played football and he was a pitcher on the baseball team.

Elijah was always a very hard working man and versatile in his occupations. He worked at General Dynamics, U.S. Brass, and Lawrence Detail Shop.

Elijah was a man who loved and embraced life to the fullest. He never met a stranger. If there was anything that he could do for anyone, he would do it. Elijah was a man with a great sense of humor and full-on “one liners”. He accepted Christ late in life with the assistance of Dr. James W. Webbs.

Elijah is preceded in death by his father, Thurman Thomas, Sr.; mother, Annie Lee Tollerson Thomas; seven sisters, Henrietta Thomas, Louise Thomas, Pearlie Smith (A.D.), Dorothy Carroll (Adele), Lovie Brown (Herbert, Sr.), Queen Elizabeth George (Paul), and Mattie Clyde Thomas Lyons (J.C.); and three brothers, Willie Love Thomas, R.T. Thomas, and Thurman Thomas, Jr. (Helen).

Elijah leaves to cherish his loving memories, two brothers, Parish Thomas (Helen) and Earl Thomas (Paulette); his devoted daughter, Rene Hays and his grandson, Chris Lopez; two sons, Reggie Cruse (Valerie – deceased) and Greg Cruse (Nancy) and four granddaughters; a host of nieces and nephews in the Lyons family; and a host of nieces and nephews in the Williams and Thomas families.

Elijah will be truly missed by all who knew him and we shall see him again someday.
